Sapp pulls out of BN, stays independent

Malaysiakini | September 17, 2008

The Sabah Progressive Party (Sapp) has decided to pull out of the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition to become an independent party.

The party’s supreme council, which met this afternoon, has opted to be an opposition party but will not join Pakatan Rakyat for now.

An upset Sapp deputy president Raymond Tan, who walked out of the council meeting, said he would resign as Sabah deputy chief minister and state minister for infrastructure development.

The party has two parliamentarians and four state assemblypersons.

The two MPs are Eric Enchin Majimbun (Sepanggar) and Dr Chua Soon Bui (Tawau), while the state representatives are Tan (Tanjong Papat), assistant state finance minister Melanie Chia (Luyang), Au Kam Wah (Elopura) and Liew Teck Chan (Likas).

According to Tan, he has yet to decide on whether he would quit the party, but said that Youth chief Au – who did not attend the meeting – has already resigned.

Party leader Yong Teck Lee made the widely expected announcement at a packed press conference at 4.30pm after the supreme council meeting.

“The BN has lost its moral authority to rule. Numerical majority in Parliament means little if the people no longer respect you,” he said.

“Sapp members who hold political appointments in the executive branch of government shall relinquish their posts by giving the due notice under the constitution and relevant rules and regulations, starting at the cabinet level.”

Pak Lah is becoming more and more panicky and desperate by the hour and we can expect Anwar to be arrested under the ISA any time now. But should Pak Lah do this, this will be the end of him politically. The people’s backlash will be very severe. Pak Lah, Khairy, Kamaludin, Nori and their spouses will charter the first plane to Perth and Kevin Rudd will give him political asylum.

    3) The flip flopping & inconsistency of federal government policies have resulted market capitalisation value to drop drastically.
    4) Everyone in the investment & financial communities want leadership &/or government change immediately but peaceful transition of power is paramount important in order to regain confidence of the Rakyat, Local & Foreign investors !

All these MCA and MIC clowns who hold positions and have a coscience are too scared to admit that they are unhappy in case ISA is imposed on them. Not to forget, some of those in UMNO except for our brave minister of law, who bravely tendered his resignation against the use of ISA. I congratulate the brave SAPP for leading the way. They are a group of very smart East Malaysians who know how to play the game. They have moved in boldly when the minister of law cleared the way for them. What are the rest waiting for? Show yourself like the brave and bold SAPP!!!

DSAI, take care. The evil forces are working hard against you. Have a meeting (highly guarded of course) with Tengku Razaleigh (Ku Li) who seems to have hit a “brick wall” in UMNO and offer him 3 years of PM-ship and settle for the DPM and then strengthen Pakatan and then later takeover as PM through an emphatic election win insha’ Allah. Move secretly and slowly and don’t show yourself as if you are the problem. Respond to Dollah’s stupid statement blaming you and make him understand that he has failed the nation and that he is the only leader in the world who complains of the corrupt and bad judiciary in his country and how foreign companies are refusing ligitation in Malaysia, and when the Minister who is supposed to reform those institutions hits a snag, tells them to go on holiday and sleep on the job. Useless PM.

    Dear Datuk Seri

As I write this, official information is already out that Najib & Pak Lah have swapped portfolios. Pak Lah has also deemed you to be a threat to the nation’s security & economy, & apparently has “plans” for you. – http://www1.malaysiakini.com/news/89888.

I am not sure how it is all going to turn out. But you did ask for Malaysians to continue to have faith. I believe many still place their faith on PR.

But the hour is critical, & the situation is dire. With every passing day, many Malaysians feel they are living on the edge of their seats, not sure as to what’s going to happen next. Many have placed their hopes on PR – but we are now so uncertain as to what would happen, even in the next few days.

Pls Datuk Seri, if you & PR can engage the Yang DiPertuan Agung today, tonight – then do so. From the very beginning, I knew Pak Lah nor Najid weren’t exactly going to roll the red carpet for you. In spite of this, & definitely in anticipation of your assuming power, ppl like Raja Petra & Theresa Kok, have been placed under ISA, & God only knows what else is in store for truth & justice loving M’sians.

Datuk Seri, the majority of the rakyat have stood hand in hand, & side by side, with you & PR. All the way building up to 8/3/08 right up to PPauh, & now this – the Sept 16 event date. However, will our hopes be dashed by BN’s potential to use upper-handed tactics? We do not know.

But if you & PR can convince His Royal Highness Yang DiPertuan Agung to help ensure a smooth transition, & thereby securing the Armed Forces, then perhaps we stand a good chance.

Datuk Seri, if you ever read this comment, I am pretty sure it is what is transpiring in teh hearts of many, many M’sians. Even now, as we continue to wait on the edge of our seats.

    Thank you.

UMNO will be shaken with the pull out of SAPP from the coalition. The current trend have caused the PM to take drastic measures in ensured that UMNO remain as the Federal government,as long as he is the PM.Knowing that his popularity is going down as he cant stay in power until 2010,he has forwarded the succession plan.Badawi was very careful to ensured that history will not tainted him as the person responsible if UMNO ever lost to the opposition.
Today’s conference by the PM have hinted that ISA might be use on the opposition leader. The PM have suddenly taken over the Defence portfolio, giving him control over the army.If my 6th sense is correct, this is another step to ensured that he have enough resources before placing Anwar under arrest. He can simply declare marshal law ‘if’ Anwar’s supporters take the street. And with Syed controlling the Police, these two can easily use their resources to control the situation.
Pakatan time seems fading if they did not react fast.Anwar should quickly lay out a succession plan in case he gets arrested. And if Anwar really have the numbers, the King should be notified fast.God bless Pakatan.

What about the Malaysian flags which children draw in the schools and thrown or discarded indiscriminately?

    Dear DSAI
Please topple the BN government soon, if not more innocent Malaysians will suffer under the abuse of ISA by the shameless Bodohwi. I am sure he will receive the punishment for his cruel act of invoking the ISA on RPK and Teresa. I also pray for your safety.

Things certainly doesn’t look good now. No defections and BN is tightening its grip on DS Anwar. Abdullah’s press statements is an indication that the ISA will be used to catch more people who are “a danger to the country”.

They pulled out but what difference does it make? They have decided to stay independent which means they are not ready to openly support PR. Under such circumstances how could we include theirs as conclusive support to the PR struggle.
I find it gets complicated and I’m really concern, not only for the PR members but also the thousands of them who worked so hard for this achievement so far.

rasupal don’t worry. When they stay independent, it means they have come out of BN and BN has lost its numbers that were at one time their strength. This means BN’s representation in govt has lessened. SAPP as individuals can vote against the govt with a vote of no confidence and join whichever party in PR that they wish to later. Anyone out there has any other explanation?

Detaining Anwar under ISA will make Anwar a martyr. By doing this, the more the people will support Anwar. The world will condemn the government of Malaysia. There will be reactions from foreign countries and this will be really bad for the economy. Anwar is an intelligent politician and the people want him to be the next Prime Minister. In an independent survey done on Sept 16, out of 10 Malaysians eight voted for Anwar to become the Prime Minister. Najib, on the other hand, only garnered two out of ten votes. As for Abdullah, he managed to only get one out of ten. This is the real situation on the ground. The general feelings among the people on the ground is that they want a change. Abdullah, UMNO and BN should accept this.

Anwar’s credibility has gone up by leaps and bounds. He has done and IS DOING his utmost to do it the right way. Steady must be the hand that steers the ship.

One of the last questions asked at his just concluded pc was: “When is Pakatan going to say ‘enough is enough’?” Intentionally or otherwise, questions such as this one betray either unthinking anxiety or mal-intention.

It is to be expected that neither Badawi nor BN will just fold up. They will either resort to extreme actions or, better still to avoid digging their own graves, try to erode the confidence and WILL of PR supporters and bystanders by attacking Anwar’s credibility. Anwar and PR supporters will not fall into this trap. So let the provocateurs keep trying.

Are the majority of MP’s with PR? Revealing the names will not give anyone the result. Only a vote in parliament will. Dare Badawi call a special session of parliament now for a vote? Dare he tell the Speaker not to disallow the vote, whether now or when parliament reconvenes in late October? I bet my shoes that Badawi will not and the Speaker will not allow the vote. And why not, when he can not only prove Anwar is bluffing but also strengthen his own hand in UMNO?

The ball is not at Anwar’s feet. It has long been shoved in Badawi’s face. If he catches it, it’s checkmate for him and BN. Be patient, fellow Malaysians and trust your leader and PR.

    nilai demokrasi aper nyer?!
ugut orang ngn kuasa ISA tu demokrasi ke?!
pancing undi guna artis kat ceruk2 kampung dan felda2 tu.. hingga majoriti bn menang kat NS ni hanya kerana menang undi kawasan2 ceruk dan felda tu.. kira demokrasi lah juga ye?!
demokrasi gak lar pak lah ketepikan hak ahli2 umno yg mahukan jawatan presiden tu dipilih atas suara majoriti ahli dan bukan atas perjanjian peribadi antara pak lah dan najib saja..

    demokrasinya….!!!

kita tunggu DSAI ditangkap ke ISA.. kita buat demonstrasi besar-besaran…
biar semua rakyat malaysia yg tau perjuangan keadilan yg sebenar ni masuk ISA beramai-ramai..
kita penuhkan dgn ratusan ribu rakyat malaysia menemani DSAI kat ISA…

maka… terbukti lah demokrasi kat malaysia ni ye….

Some suggest that the MP’s should march to parliament. Some say PR should knock on the door of His Majesty YMM Agung.

Some MPs don’t like walking and they are used to Mercs and BM’s. Some don’t go by the name RPK, Teresa Kok, Lim KS or Lim GE, Anwar, Tom, Dick or Harry. Some are too old to walk. It’s good enough if they just cast their vote for PR. So let’s please be more understanding.

Isn’t it a bit too much to simply go knocking on doors and throwing the ball at people’s feet, especially His Majesty’s? Don’t be like those footballers who ask the referee to score their goals for them.

SAPP didn’t join PR. Badawi, being Badawi, can count on them abstaining in a parliament vote. We should get the drift, by now.

PR supporters are made of sterner stuff. Hooray for Anwar, hooray for PAS, hooray for DAP, hooray for PKR, hooray for SAPP!

At risk of sounding (or in fact, being) stupid, I confess I like to read books. Like me, the fourth floor boys, or even the basement boys, also read books.

I have read in history books and seen with my own eyes in comic books that strategic cities are always attacked or besieged in a war, especially in the final decisive battles. They may be large or small cities but they are both strategic AND vulnerable cities.

Often, such cities are in the territory of the retreating side. Their local leaders, minor-kings, warlords (whatever the name) will be furiously consulting omens, soothsayers, fengshui, pie-charts, bar-charts, hyperbolic graphs and whatnot, including 4-D kangtaos, but weather charts are a must. They must decide whether to flee with the retreating army or wait for the advancing army.

The taking of such cities is crucial to the advancing side. If these cities become so shaken and exhausted that they flee with the retreating army, the cities are empty and desolate when the advancing army arrives for the supplies that are now gone. The advance is halted. The one and real battle is fought over this prize.

I betted my shoes that Badawi, die-die, will refuse a parliament vote and wait for these cities populated by BN MPs to be exhausted and so give up and flee. Because the fourth floor and basement boys told me so.

From Kalimullah @ spin doctor’s Malaysia Insider:

["The Opposition icon knows that failure to deliver 31 MPs and oust Abdullah and BN out of Parliament will hurt him in the court of public opinion. His latest challenge to Abdullah suggests that he needs more time to get the numbers."]

The person NOT having the numbers wants a vote NOW. The Badawi says to Anwar, “No, I have the numbers and you don’t, but I want to save your face by rejecting your call for a vote. So I am buying time for you. See?”

No wonder even Che Det thinks kalimullah is an idiot. If you want to spin, don’t be a clown and spin to yourself in front of a circus mirror. Your face will look like your posterior and vice versa.
