PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Rakyat wants Umno to stop playing the race card for the sake of political stability, Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said.
Anwar said the opposition coalition did not want to allow the Government to create uncertainty or instability by using the race card whenever they were pushed into a corner.
“This is clearly an act of desperation. We urge the Government to respect the laws of the land,” he told reporters Saturday at an impromptu press conference at the PKR headquarters here.
Anwar said this when referring spefically to the detention of Seputeh MP and Selangor senior executive councillor Teresa Kok under the Internal Security Act (ISA), while also condemning the arrests of Malaysia Today editor Raja Petra Kamaruddin and Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng.
Anwar said the race card was used when detaining Kok and it was the Government’s way of suggesting that the Malays should not express their concern about such action.
“I am a Malay and a Muslim and I think it is grossly unjust for any Malay or Muslim to condone injustice,” he said.
When asked if the opposition would have to defer its Sept 16 plan to take over the government, Anwar said of utmost importance now was national unity and political stability.
“This is why we are now demanding for an urgent closed-door meeting between our representative and the Prime Minister to discuss national security and the future of Malaysian politics.”
Anwar said deferring the takeover date was not an issue as he claimed that the opposition had the requisite number of MPs, but added that the use of the ISA was definitely to intimidate the rakyat and the opposition.
“We will move (to take over the government) in accordance with the constitutional provision and the mandate that we have.”
On whether he had heard that more opposition MPs would be arrested, Anwar said he had heard of the possibility of a second wave of arrests.
“We are mindful of that fact but we should not feel threatened. It is Umno and Barisan Nasional that should feel threatened by public sentiment clamouring for change.”
Anwar added that he wanted the crackdown to stop and promised that all ISA detainees would be released when the opposition forms the government.
It is good that you remind UMNO that Malaysia is not “bapa punya” of UMNO where they can do anything they like including to destroy it!
At this point of time UMNO is unsure whether Anwar will take over the Government on September 16. So they intentionally played up the race card to create a volatile and tense situation in the country.
Should Anwar succeed in taking over the Government on September 16, UMNO can use the volatile situation in the country to create further unrest. Since malay sentiments have already been fired up, it will not take much to fan the fire to a greater degree to unseat Anwar. If the racial unrest does not succeed in unseating Anwar, then Anwar will have inherited a country in such dire condition that investors will be afraid to put their money here. Then Anwar can be blamed for the poor economic condition of the country.
Such is the “slash and burn” tactic which UMNO has no qualms in using to thwart Anwar. In doing so, UMNO does not mind that the country is destroyed in the process.
This is a despicable act by UMNO in order to cling to power, at what ever cost!

But please open your eyes if you are not a crony of BN. Race based politics will not help you or your future generations. It is truly out dated. It can cause instability and corruption apart from racial clashes. We Malaysians have to depend on an astute Malay scholar who can represent us all as one. We cannot practice a true democracy under race based policies. period

Like I’d said, I’m neither a BN nor a PKR pro. I don’t know for sure how indepth are you in knowing communal politics. It irks me. I had this bitter experienced exploring europe for the past 20 years, looking for a place called ‘home’. Little that I realised that racial segregation was the order of the day. The situation was even worst what you guys in Malaysia is enjoying, regardless of race & religion.
well, to have people like dsai is normal for a country, which I believed advocate democarcy, if not real democracy. I am sure he would not have exist, if your country had not practice democracy. Isn’t it?
Try be in europe and experience the ‘real democracy’ or better in US. I will bet my last dollar, that you will come back to Malaysia.

Good evening to you, YB Datuk Seri, I wanted to write yesterday when I read on the internet the detention under ISA of RPK, Ms Tan (reporter) and Teresa but I was devastated and totally sad and SHOCKED! I just could not accept that the present government could do such a cruel and evil act.
RPK’s reporting has been very overwhelming, a maestro and style unique and original. RPK being a person abling to obtain and reporting specific and direct incidents has truly brought many of us Malaysians to be awaken. His source is ULTRA INTELLIGENGE and WISDOM thoughts to all of us fair Malaysians!!!
Today many Malaysians if not all realised how we had been made suckers all this while if not for the the simple and yet most powerful computerisation evolved today with the simplicity of communication via INTERNET. RPK has provided detailed information and he let truth to be told made with stokes from his keyboard.
I am glad to read just now that Ms Tan has been released though it was said her so called detention was for her own safety, what safety when she was released lest than 24 hours and no arrest of any perpetrators and or criminals supposely out to harm her. Who and where are these so called criminals wishing to harm Ms Tan!!!

Hmmmm, said that Teresa was arrested because of some report made by the ex-MB of Selangor, Toyo, about IZAN. I, on behalf of all my Malaysian brothers and sisters, do not think Teresa will make such remark or comment on any matters with regards to race and or religious matters. She is after all a SNR politician and Selangor assemblyman and state exco member blessed with WISDOM like RPK.
Fellow Malaysians do believe you, DSAI has the means and know how to do and handle whats right for us. We will walk with you by your side and charge at your command. We have reasons to believe the members of UMNO whom are currently holding positions of powers especially Ministers are out to prove to their members to obtain their votes by using force and threat on the public especially the minority races. Maybe this is their way but going out to destroy the harmony and well being of Malaysia as a whole is totally WRONG!!!!!!!

Anwar must also promise to abolish ISA once and for all when PR forms the new government. ISA has been a tool to manupulate the judiciary system. IT is used as a way to avoid costly, lenghty and potentially-losing court proceedings. It’s a cowardly act of the present or any government which uses such act. The detainees are not even terrorists like Osama.
Also, should there be a PR government, the judiciary system MUST be amended to include a panel of jurors in all court trials to ensure fairness like the American judiciary system because there is always a chance that the judge presiding in a trial is a crony of either the defendant and especially the prosecution party and thus the judge is pressured by the people with power to influence his decision and determine his career as a judge.
The government is in a state of blurr….they are sleep-walking. They don’t get it that the rakyat is truly fed-up with them and is looking for a ray of hope and sunshine in people like Anwar, RPK and Theresa Kok; I mean people with conscience. Even if Anwar inherits a country in chaos as what BN would certainly want, don’t underestimate the intelligence of the rakyat and international investors. They know where to plant their seeds.
So BN, go ahead and do all that you want - you don’t realise that the hole you have dug is almost enough to bury you now.

Day of Prayer and Fasting – Sep 16 2008
Menteri Besar/Chief Minister of the 5 Pakatan Rakyat Opposition control states should declare Sep 16 2008 a public holiday commerating Malaysia Day – a day of prayer and fasting.
It is 48 hours left to 16th Sep 2008 and it is still possible to act. Malaysians in other states can follow the example set by the 5 Pakatan Rakyat states and follow suit by joining in and observing this Day of Prayer and Fasting – Sep 16 2008.
My fellow Malaysians of all races and faiths should go to their places of worship be it a Mosque, Temple, Gurudwara and pray for the well being of Malaysia our homeland and our friends and fellow Malaysians held under ISA.

Stop playing the race card - is the right call. Racialism is an ugly game. The Nazis and the facists were racialists to the core. They had brought untold miseries to the people of the world. May 13 is another game by the power that be. What had the rakyat benefitted from racism? Poverty, mistrusts and lawlessness. And what did they get? Power and more power.
The rakyat must now unite, the Malays, Chinese, Indians, Orang Asli, Iban, Kadazan, Murut, and others — UNITE.
Our country is a rich country, we can become wonders if we are united, we are Malaysians and we are Malaysians alike. Unite. Lets determine our own destiny free from exploitation of one race against the other.
Lets act as one nation, lets shape the future of Malaysia free from racialism. Barisan Nasional consists of political parties with racial ideologies, they are playing communal politics at the grass root levels, and yet they try to portray a non-racial outlook at the leadership level, simply to enable them reap the riches and the wealth of this nation for themselves at the expense of the rakyat. Kita tolak habis-habisan politik perkauman Barisan Nasional ini. Jahat!

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim,I still remember when you were arreseted in 1998,read a book published about you with some photos of you with the “arang” eye.I was still in Methodist Boys’ School primary school that time,wouldn’t know that I will eventually grow up to witness you,the one in the book,going to change Malaysia forever,for the sake of everyone in Malaysia.You have my bless,if you’re reading this,I wonder can I find back the book,miss the olden days haha.My advise is,just be careful tomorrow before your more worthy than BN’s “mega project” reaches the dawn of Sep 16.=)
