Akta DNA dibentang cubaan perangkap Anwar Ibrahim

KOTA BHARU, 20 Ogos (Hrkh) - Kerajaan Barisan Nasional (BN) kini terpaksa bergantung kepada parlimen bagi memerangkap Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim dengan membentang Rang Undang-Undang DNA kelmarin.

Naib Presiden PAS, Dato’ Husam Musa berkata, semua orang nampak rang undang-undang itu dibawa secara tergesa-gesa dengan mengambil kira dakwaan liwat membabitkan mantan Timbalan Perdana Menteri.

“Kenapa setelah tujuh tahun baru nak dibentangkan.

Anwar Antes Up

hc-gh085_ibrahi_20070521110918.gif

WALL STREET JOURNAL ASIA - Malaysia’s high-stakes political standoff just had the ante upped. With the resignation of his wife from Parliament yesterday, opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim declared he’s running for office in the by-election to fill her seat. The question now is whether the government will allow him to do so.

The stakes are high for the ruling National Front. Mr. Anwar’s three-party opposition coalition controls 82 of 222 parliamentary seats. If Mr. Anwar wins office — which seems likely, given he’s running for the seat he held for 17 years — the opposition says 30 MPs would defect to their side, giving them a majority and likely felling the government. Mr. Anwar would be on his way to becoming Prime Minister.

Stop witch-hunt, end sodomy probe

karpal-singh.jpg

Press Statement by Karpal Singh in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, 30th July 2008:

The statement by Home Minister, Datuk Seri Syed Hamid Albar,

‘He (Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim) has not been charged yet. What are we supposed to drop?’

Syed Hamid Albar cannot be tat naïve not to comprehend what Anwar Ibrahim is saying,

‘Stop the investigation, forward the report to the attorney-General’s Chambers and reclassify the case as NFA (No Further Action).’

Clearly, what has to be addressed is whether the police should pursue the investigations on the sodomy allegation against Anwar Ibrahim.

Transcript: Anwar Ibrahim interviewed by Financial Times

Financial Times - The FT’s Assif Shameen spoke to Anwar Ibrahim, Malaysia’s opposition leader, about the sodomy charges that he faces and his intent to return to politics. The following is an edited transcript of the interview.

Financial Times: There are reports that you will be arrested and charged imminently. Clearly, you don’t think they have a case?

Anwar Ibrahim: First of all, with all the evidence that is now before them, I don’t see any reason why the authorities should continue with these investigations of alleged sodomy. There is this medical report, which is authentic, very clear. A doctor who examined the accuser clearly ruled out any alleged sodomy.

Malaysia’s Anwar may be arrested ‘in the next 48 hours’: official

 610x.jpg

KUALA LUMPUR (AFP) - Malaysia’s opposition figurehead Anwar Ibrahim may be arrested in the next 48 hours, a senior party official said Thursday, saying it was to stop him contesting a by-election.

Anwar has been accused of sodomy, which he denies, saying it is a politically motivated move to stop him challenging the government.

“We will not rule out the possibility of Anwar being arrested. And it looks like they are planning to charge him by Monday,” Tian Chua, Keadilan party’s information chief, told AFP.

“They may arrest him in the next 48 hours. It is aimed to prevent him from contesting in a by-election,” he added.
