Nation Dragged Into Immoral Politics

From The Malaysian Insider
By Muaz Omar

FEB 15 — Opposition Leader Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim is facing one of the most daunting period of his political career.

If the court finds that the AG Chambers is able to prove beyond reasonable doubt and convict Anwar, it will most probably spell the end of a tumultuos career of an enigmatic leader.

For the uninitiated, this “Sodomy Redux” of Anwar’s alleged indescretion bears a similar plot, from the main players right up to the actual charge itself.

The story goes of how Anwar, a 62 year old father of six with a history of back problems who forced himself on his former aide Saiful Bukhari Azlan, a young and fit mid 20’s university dropout.

The storyline is bizzare to say the least that would even make Hugh Hefner, founder of the biggest pornographic empire Playboy smirk in disgust.

While we are being fed with juicy details of the supposedly homosexual tendencies of Anwar, it is nauseating to see how the media is bent on tarnishing and assasinate the character of the person representing the biggest threat to Umno and almost single handedly dented Umno’s 50-odd years of hegemony.

Umno pulled out from the book every single dirty trick that it knows to add to the sodomy charge in their desperate attempt to hold on to power by abusing the media, institutions and enforcement agencies in their attempt to hoodwink the people.

With both Anwar and the government jostling to win over the public — one claiming political motives on the charges and the other trying to display Anwar as a sodomist — the mainstream media is siding with the government and the new media tilting towards Anwar. “I’m Still Optimistic” – Anwar Ibrahim On Muslim World-U.S Relationship

From Gulf Times
By Ourouba Hussien

US President Barack Obama’s address in Cairo was an unsuccessful attempt to reinforce relationship with the Islamic world as it was governed by nothing but politics, a senior Palestinian official said in Doha yesterday.
Speaking at the second plenary of the seventh US-Islamic World Forum, Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat slammed the US administration’s efforts to hold indirect negotiations between the Palestinians and Israelis.

“They are not meaningful, especially after 20 years of direct negotiations between both sides,” he said.
Questioning the reasons behind Obama’s non-recognition of a Palestinian state, Erekat noted it was time for the US to move in this direction if it wanted to confront the extremists in the region.
He said that the region did not need a war with Iran or anyone else, calling upon the US to promote democracy in the Arab world.

“It is wrong to consider Arabs not eligible for democracy,” he added.

Presenting a comparison between the last two US presidents, the Dean of the School of Public Affairs at the American University in Cairo, Nabil Fahmy, said that Bill Clinton obtained wide support after his address at the Palestinian parliament. However, George Bush’s policies contradicted with the Arabs’ aspirations.

Malaysia’s opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said there was a big change in the tone of US comments regarding Islamic issues with the arrival of Obama in the White House.

Perutusan Tahun Baru Cina 2010

Malaysia Merudum Kearah Ketidakstabilan-PERC

From Malaysian Insider

By Lee Wee Lian

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 10 — Events since New Year’s Day have given the Hong Kong-based Political and Economic Risk Consultancy (PERC) the impression that the situation in Malaysia is becoming increasingly unstable.

In a blistering report on Malaysia released at the end of January, PERC also asserted that a group of elite minorities were dominating the national agenda to the extent that it was hurting Malaysia’s attractiveness to investors.

The consultancy, which also publishes reports on the risk ratings of other Asian countries, said it is “probable” that no other Asian country is suffering from as much bad press as Malaysia. Among the developments that caught its attention were the theft of military jet engines, detention of terror suspects from a number of African and Middle East countries following warnings that Islamic militants were planning attacks on foreigners at resorts in Sabah, renewed ethnic and religious “violence” that included arson at some churches and desecration of mosques, and controversy over the integrity of key institutions like the judicial system in the sodomy trial of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Events of the past month give the impression that pressures are building and the entire situation is becoming much more unstable,” said PERC.
