Anwar vs Dr Chandra: March 16 For RM10mil Defamation Suit at Anwar Ibrahim

The High Court has set March 16 next year for the case management of RM10mil defamation suit filed by Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim against academician Dr Chandra Muzaffar.

Deputy registrar Norazlin Othman set the date after meeting lawyer Wan Anuar Shaddat Mohamed Amin, who acted for Anwar and counsel Mohd Zaharudeen Harun, who represented Dr Chandra, in her chambers Thursday.

The Parti Keadilan Rakyat adviser filed the suit against Dr Chandra on March 6 last year.

Anwar claimed that Dr Chandra @ Chandrasegaran Pillai had falsely and maliciously spoken about his conduct at a forum at Menara Star in Petaling Jaya.

He said that the alleged defamatory/libellous comments had been published by newspapers on March 5 last year.

Anwar said Dr Chandra spoke the offending words to disparage him in both his private and official capacities, including as former deputy Prime Minister and former Finance Minister.

In the statement of claim, Anwar said the offending words were defamatory and/or libellous and meant, among other things, that he promoted and incited racial hatred among the races in Malaysia.

The words also meant that he had committed criminal offences including sedition, that he was unpatriotic, a racist and/or a bigot, and that he had no morals.

He is asking the High Court for an injunction to restrain the defendant, his agents and/or his servants from further uttering or publishing such/similar words.

In a statement of defence filed on May 16 last year, Dr Chandra denied making defamatory comments against Anwar.

In asking for Anwar’s claims to be dismissed with costs, Dr Chandra said he relied on the defence of justification.

Alternatively, Dr Chandra contended that if the words were defamatory of Anwar, they were published on an occasion of qualified privilege without malice.

Dey Dr Chandrasekran Pillai!

You might have earned your PhD and can go around the world boasting about it but in reality all that education has gone to waste given your present behaviour! Was your PhD given by the Malaysian government, I just wonder!!!!! This because, given the present scenario, every government institution in Malaysia is “screwedup” PERIOD!!!!!! As you have proudly proclaimed, as a PhD at that, if the defamatory words against Anwar were published, it was done so on an occasion of qualified privilage without malice!!!!!! Did I quote you right?! Now I know what to expect from the layman on the streets in Malaysia and hence my justification on the learned people not only walking along the coridoors of power but their stooges running the failed institutions!!!!!!! Good luck to you, Chandra!!!!!!

Dato Seri Anwar,

Pastikan dokumen mahkamah semua ditulis di dalam Bahasa Malaysia.

Jangan tersilap seperti di dalam kes Mahathir tu.

Dan kalau boleh, tolong saman Mahathir balik dan kali ini pastikan dokumen mahkamah ditulis balik dalam Bahasa Malaysia.

Mudah2an DSAI akan menang kes ni tp saya tengok mcm berat sebelah coz BN back up “DR BODOH” tu skrg.. kalau kalah, “DR BODOH” tu mesti menang di mahkamah rayuan!!! Biasalah, 99.9% hakim kita kan “kuda tunggangan” BN!!!
Apapun, tiada yg melebihi kuasa Allah s.w.t.. insya allah, doa rakyat mengiringi DSAI…

Apa ini, baru tegur sikit dah melenting, lihat Tun Mahathir dan lain-lain pemimpin Barisan Nasional, dihentam bertubi-tubi dengan pelbagai fitnah dan tohmahan berniat jahat mahu menjatuhkan mereka juga tapi mereka tidaklah melatah sebegini. Kalau mereka nak ambil tindakan, sudah lama Penasihat Umum PKR dan gengnya akan merempat dalam penjara. Fikirkanlah tulisan saya ini sedalam-dalamnya sekian, terima kasih.

Sikap Pakatan Rakyat yang suka menyaman orang adalah lebih kurang sama dengan sikap pemerintah sebuah negara kecil yang kononnya perjuangkan keadilanlah, itulah inilah, tapi selalu sekat pembangkang di sana. Pemimpin pembangkang di sana kalau nak cakap tak boleh macam pemimpin pembangkang di Malaysia yang boleh suka-suka hati hentam orang sebab pihak pemerintah di Malaysia bukan tidak berhati perut dan zalim meskipun dituduh jahat dan zalim. Kalau di negara berkenaan, saya rasa sudah semua pemimpin Pakatan Rakyat dihumban ke penjara kerana tuduhan fitnah. Tapi di Malaysia, pemerintahnya bertimbang rasa kerana lebih demokrasi, tapi pihak yang tak sedar diri pula tuduh Malaysia diperintah secara kuku besi. Saya cadangkan mereka berceramah di negara kecil berkenaan dengan menghentam kerajaaan pemerintah negara kecil berkenaan, tunggulah tak sampai sebulan, terus jadi kes mahkamah dan pasti akan dihumban ke penjara.
