Malaysia Seen As More Corrupt Than Ever

From The Malaysian Insider
By Debra Chong

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 17 – Malaysia is now seen to be more corrupt than ever, anti-graft watchdog Transparency International said in its global corruption perception index 2009 launched today.

Malaysia now ranks 56 out of 180 countries in the world with a corruption index score of 4.5 out of 10, with 10 being the least corrupt, said the world corruption watchdog. Last year, it placed 47 with a CPI score of 5.1.

The three least corrupt countries in the world are, in order, New Zealand, Denmark and Singapore.

In an immediate reaction, DAP Parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang called Malaysia’s ranking the worst in 15 years and said it was a major blow to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s administration.

“This is a national shame and major blow for Najib’s premiership,” the Ipoh Timur MP said in a statement.

He said that he had expected poor results for Malaysia both in CPI ranking and score, with the country slipping further in ranking from 47 to perhaps 50 and score a lowest CPI of 4.8.

“But my worst fears had been exceeded when the Berlin-based TI just announced that Malaysia had plunged nine places from last year’s 47th CPI ranking to 56th position while Malaysia CPI index score plunged to the lowest in 15 years to 4.5,” he added.

Malaysia’s previous worst scores below 5 were 4.8 in 2000 and 4.9 in 2002.

Lim said the mysterious death of DAP political aide Teoh Beng Hock on July 16 at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Selangor head office was among the major factors for Malaysia’s worst-ever TI CPI ranking and score.

“Will there be any response from Najib to the shocking TI CPI 2009 ranking and score?” he asked.

What is there to be ashamed of for them. They can have everything what they want. They can still ruled the country because they have tons of money and nobody can touch them. They know the malay vote can be easy to be bought, you give then house, mosque to pray and some money to survive. Then they come and talk about Ketuanan Melayu, Hak Melayu. The only malay vote they cannot buy is those who has fate and malay who has mission and vission.

Who are they ? Of course lah the Leaders of UMNO. Satu Kuasa dan rasuah didahulukan, rakyat diperbodohkan.

Ask the botak nazi about the ranking and he will tell you that the bolehland are suppose to rank 199 in the world but after najis and all the members of bee end plus the mamakutir tried so hard, even the correct correct correct also not guilty, so we now ranked 56 which is already 146 better already

    Hahaha.. Tepat sekali K1.

If we ask them, they will surely compare us with other lower rated countries. The fact that this is the worst CPI rating for Malaysia for the past 15 years has no effect on them.

    They will say :
“Who cares about the rating. Our stomach & pockets are full – cukupla. The one who need to be worried is the people as they need to work harder to ‘feed’ us. If they question us, we simply change the term from ‘corruption’ to ‘commission’ – then nobody can say anything what!? If they still make noise so much – we explode them lah”

Is this perception that Msia being corrupt due to the fact that more cases are being brought up by macc over the last 12 months, much more cases than ever before? It seems to be so. But why is it that most of the cases involve reps of the 3 PR control states? It is because:
    1) There are more corruption ever since PR took control over the 3 states ( 4 states to begin with)
    2) PR reps are more corrupt?
    3) PR reps do not know how to be corrupt and get away with it?
    4) Macc is more efficient now?
    5) BN is conspiring with macc to practicing selective investigation into PR reps to embarrass them?
    6) BN is conspiring with macc to hammer home the message that PR reps are a corrupt lot?
    7) BN is conspiring with macc to wrestle back the control of the 3 states?
    8) BN is conspiring with macc to make voters perceive that the PR gomens are corrupt, in-efficient, racist and thus swing the next GE votes in favour of bn?

Well your ancestor voted Lee Kuan Yew out of malaysia then. If Lee Kuan Yew has the land and resources of malaysia, we could be rank among the top 10 richest country.. Singapore has the brains but no resources, malaysia has the resources but no brain

    Dear DSAI!

Though I have read the comments from your bloggers, let me just say this…..I can understand the the frustrations the average (leave alone those who are poor and can’t afford the luxury of communicating through the internet) Malaysian feels when being targeted by an international organisation for being corrupt! Thanks to the internet, we get free and fair views because those who are and were in power will certainly get, and if I may use the word “rewarded”, for their deeds! It’s certainly round the corner as the “winds of change” have started blowing down south, with Japan to start with! If Mahathir is still living in a world of his own it is at his own peril! But change is change because the very person who has initiated this change is none other than Mahathir during his tensure as PM of Malaysia for 22 years! To make things worse, in retirement and with his countless and unwarranted statements , he has made a mess of his legacy as the longest serving PM of Malaysia!

One thing is for sure, keep your cool because he (Mahathir) has taken his own spade to dig a grave for himself! Poor Doctor Mahathir!!!!!!!
