Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim (picture) slammed the government in Parliament today for letting “judiciary fixer” senior lawyer Datuk VK Lingam off the hook.
He argued that it was pointless for Parliament to debate on Judges Ethics Bill which is aimed at reforming a judiciary marred by decades of abuses when the government refused to take action against highly-connected judiciary figures found to be corrupt.
“Now Lingam is all powerful,” Anwar said during debate on the Bill.
Lingam was implicated in a judiciary scandal involving senior government judges and found by a royal commission to be the person who was recorded “fixing” the appointment of judges.
The commission found strong evidence against Lingam and in its report suggested that action be taken against Lingam and others implicated in the infamous “correct, correct, correct” recording.
Other figures implicated include then Chief Justice Tun Eusoff Chin, Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim and tycoon Vincent Tan, a close friend of former premier Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad. The recording had been made public by Anwar.
However, Minister in the Prime Minister Department Datuk Seri Nazri Aziz in a written reply yesterday to Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had said that no action would be taken against Lingam.
He said Attorney General Tan Sri Gani Patail had found “no case” against the senior lawyer.
Anwar said the decision has made a mockery out of the calibre of those who sat on the panel of the Royal Commission, a line-up made of the country’s most respectable judiciary figures.
“With the questionable reputation of the AG himself, the findings of credible and respectable judiciary figures and the recommendation that action be taken have been ignored simply because the AG said so.”
Earlier, Gelugor MP Karpal Singh urged the government to reopen the Lingam case.
He told reporters in Parliament that although the AG had decided to drop the case against Lingam, the senior lawyer could still be charged under the Sedition Act.
“He has brought disrepute to the judiciary,” said Karpal, adding that anti-graft body MACC could also conduct a probe.

I feel like vomiting when Lingam escaped legal actions despite the case being so clear cut….
there are other cases which are much, much more blur, insufficient in evidence, in fact the evidences were to the contrary, that actions were pursued in courts…..(DSAI case, Teoh’s case, etc, etc, etc).

Greetings, DSAI.
Yes, please continue to highlight and expose the wickedness of this corrupt and depraved BN government. Even the Royal Commission is made a lame duck when this BN government does not heed it’s advice and convict Lingam.
We fear for you in your ongoing trial with that sinister fella who had accused you of those despicable things. At the rate this judiciary is conducting itself, will opposition members be able to get a fair trial? Malaysians are not blind to these injustices!

We are at a stage where we call Black is white , Good is Evil or vice-versa.
It’s just like Mayors of certain remote areas where they are the Laws
and no one touches them.
But we have these Mayors right in the heart of the city !
If they want you to leave now just do it and forget about the check-out time. You can check out later but you will never leave.

What a joke…..these days to comment in Tun’s blog seems to be a hazadorous task! The “censors” are and I must say hard at work to block any adverse comments about Tun! Me included! Anyway, of late our great Tun has made “grave, idiotic and unwarranted” comments involving him on the on going political happpenings in Malaysia! Instead of relaxing in his twilight years, he seems to be more concerned about protecting his legacy rather than doing the former!!!
NOW IT MAKES ME WONDER WHY LEE KUAN YEW CALLED HIM AN “ULTRA MALAY” WHILE HE (MAHATHIR) WAS PM!!!!!! DO YOU BLAME LKY FOR USING SUCH WORDS AGAINST THE LONGEST SERVING PM OF MALAYSIA FOR NOTHING?!!!! Do some soul searching, my dear Malaysian brothers ans sisters!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
For whatever they have called Anwar, honestly speaking, I prefer him to lead Malaysia in the near future than have a “Mamak” who lead Malaysia for the 22 years and who blatantly calls himself a true malay! Tun, please wake up before it’s too late….and by the way, Kerala welcomes you with open hands should you decide to migrate because no other place will welcome you! You are rotten to the core!!!!!!!

This is Malaysia Boleh! Anything also can mah!
What is correct or not depends on No.1 and the machais will do the necessary. Black can be white, white can be black. Contradictory? So what? ‘We are in charge, we have the mandate, remember?’
So far, the recent judgments were according to public perceptions and expectations of BN rule. We can only wait and bear in mind the injustices during this period.
So far, the people seem to behave like the pigeons outside our house. I have given up shooing them away because the neighbour believes in feeding them for their own good. Quite impossible to counter that.

How to proceed with prosecution without letting the whole world know what a rotten county this is? Like they don’t already know. LOL.
So, despite looking like a bunch of morons (maybe they actually are), the Gomen’s got not choice but to drop any action.

Lingam is the most powerful lawyer in Malaysia. Malaysia should have engaged this man to negotiate Batu Putih, Terumbu Layang-Layang, Tarian Pendet, Terang Bulan, etc. Beware Singapore, Indonesia, Brunei, Lingam is coming.

So the Lingam case is closed as though it had never happened anyway. I could see this guy now walking smugly along the Bintang Walk and giving the middle finger at whoever is staring at him, like his saying, “There, so what!?”

What type of country is this ? It is worse than mozambique.Evil things done and commited by top officials from BN government are always let off scotts free no matter what they do…be it murder, cheating, raping, swindling, accumulating tons and tons of money, you just name it…nobody dare touch them…not even Petai or Musang. But if things were to go the other way roung(to the pakatan side) it’s just like ants sniffing upon drops of sugar and there they go to do the arresting and handcuffing and interogate till they are thrown down to the ground. This is real disgusting and horrible.Because of power and glory and wealth,BN is out to do anything possible. One fine example is PI BALA…where is Bala now ?Can’t the government trace his whereabouts ?

You people have to keep this case always in the limelight. I suggest that PR/PKR takes a citizen suit against the government over this issue. Never mind you have no locus standi or all that legal jargon. The media has to remind the people constantly on this issue until the wrong is corrected.

The only way to fight the current corrupt UMNO and Najib is by armed revolution. No doubt the Army, Police, Navy & AirForce are under UMNO’s control, getting support to fight them would need to seriously considered.
With ISA and the dirty Police, every opposition politician is in danger, so start preparing for self defence and try to engage the local people.
Down with UMNO and all these traitors.
