Kelab Anwar Ibrahim (AIC) menyifatkan gesaan Majlis Gabungan NGO Pembela Negara (Magaran) ke atas kerajaan untuk menahan pimpinan tertinggi Pakatan Rakyat di bawah akta zalim ISA adalah satu usaha mengalihkan pandangan rakyat ke atas kegagalan mereka.

Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Tuan Guru Dato Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, YB Lim Kit Siang, dan Pengerusi Gerakan Mansuh ISA (GMI) dinamakan Magaran sebagai dalang penganjuran perhimpunan aman pada Sabtu lepas. Anggaran rawak seramai 80,000 individu yang hadir di ibu kota menunjukkan betapa kempen mansuhkan ISA mendapat dukungan rakyat meskipun berhadapan dengan provokasi terlampau pihak polis.

If like Anwar I am call a traitor for denouncing UMNO as failing to defend the special rights of the Malays and the Monarchy then let me stand beside Anwar and be a traitor.

UMNO defending the rights of the Monarchy? Was it not your President Mahathir who stripped away the legal privileges of the Sultans – the hereditary and cultural symbols of the Malays? The Sultans to whom we all go for protection against political and administrative excesses? And then you all have the audacity to put yourself on the same level as we had once had placed the Sultans on – but this time giving the Malays no access to protection from the excesses you have indulged in and now continue to indulge at the expense of the Malays? I did not hear of any Sultan taking Ringgit $500 million for services rendered. I did not hear of Sultans using the Police to impose their will upon the Malays. I did not hear of Sultans blowing up foreign nationals. I did not hear of Sultans willing to allow the Malays to suffer economically as they do in Kelantan, just because the people in that state choose to have, as their government, a party that is not UMNO.

Apabila terdesak, ada yang sanggup berbuat apa sahaja kendatipun tindakan itu merupakan fitnah melampau dan memperlihatkan kerendahan akal budi. Demikian mahu diperalatkan, maka ada yang sanggup negara ini hangus dibakar api kebencian. Keterdesakan melihat kemaraan rakyat, bersama agenda Perubahan, muslihat jahat mengapi-apikan sentimen perkauman sempit ditiupkan.

Biarlah hatta pembohongan itu menzalimi sesama manusia asalkan umno-bn kekal berkuasa. Momokan disebarkan kononnya orang Melayu diperalatkan oleh Pakatan Rakyat demi kelansungan perjuangan. Alasan yang diberikan kerana orang Melayu turun beramai-ramai menyertai perhimpunan aman untuk menyerahkan memorandum kepada Seri Paduka Baginda Yang DiPertuan Agong.

Saya dengan rasa rendah hati dan bukan kepalang gembira serta bangga mengakui hakikat sememangnya orang Melayu berduyun-duyun menyertai perhimpunan aman bersama Pakatan Rakyat menzahirkan kebencian mereka kepada kezaliman dan ketidakadilan. Memang benar puluhan ribu orang Melayu bersatu mahukan ISA dimansuhkan. Memang benar laungan Takbir berselang seli dengan Hidup Rakyat dan Reformasi.

Pada hari yang bersejarah itu orang Melayu bersama-sama rakan-rakan mereka, kaum Cina, India, Iban dan Kadazan serta seluruh rakyat Malaysia melafazkan talkin untuk kezaliman, penindasan serta kebencian. Upaya untuk mengelirukan rakyat dengan taktik pecah dan perintah adalah usaha lapok yang sudah mamah dimakan zaman.

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares of both MULTI-PURPOSE HOLDINGS BHD [] (MPHB) and Tanjong plc rose almost 3% yesterday, closing at their highest in more than a year.

Investors are betting that policymakers will initiate more measures in the numbers forecast operations (NFO) industry, a move deemed crucial to help players regain lost ground due to the rise in illegal gaming activities.

The market yesterday responded to news that MPHB’s subsidiary Magnum Corp Sdn Bhd had received approval to introduce a new four-digit (4D) game which will incorporate a jackpot element.

Investors are speculating that Tanjong may be accorded similar treatment.

“We believe this move by the government is an effort to be fair to Magnum, since BERJAYA SPORTS TOTO BHD [] (BToto) recently obtained approval to replace its existing Toto 6/42 jackpot lotto game (which has a minimum jackpot of RM300,000) with another lotto game, Power Toto 6/55 (minimum jackpot of RM3 million and no maximum jackpot) by year-end.

MEDIA STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PAKATAN RAKYAT condemns the prosecution of 29 persons including a 16 year old juvenile in the Sessions Court yesterday for alleged unlawful assembly.

This act of selective punishment is clearly intended to intimidate those who participated in the Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA organised peaceful gathering on Saturday and an attempt to threaten future assemblies. It again confirms to all Malaysians and the world that the UMNO/BN government has no respect for the basic human and constitutional right of peaceful assembly guaranteed in the Federal Constitution.

PR condemns the manner in which violence in the form of physical violence, tear gas and strong chemical weapons were used to inflict violence on the crowd which included women and minors. This shameful oppressive behaviour reflects badly on the government and tarnishes the image of Malaysia in the eyes of the world.

The allegation that the GMI organisers and participants in the rally on Saturday caused businesses to lose income to the extent of hundreds of millions is laughable and completely exaggerated. Anyone can see that if the police had been instructed by their BN masters to allow the rally, one would have had a peaceful rally and the tens of thousands of persons present would have boosted business in that area of KL instead.

It is a simple matter for the police to work to work together with organisers of rallies to ensure that the right of peaceful assembly is protected and to ensure minimal disruption to traffic and movement of persons. SUHAKAM, the government’s own adviser on human rights appointed through statute has repeatedly told the BN government this for the last 10 years. Yet the BN refuses to accept this.

In doing so, it shows to Malaysia and the world, its real political values i.e. it is no respecter of the basic rights of its own citizens, it practices a sham democracy, that what the BN is really about is using the state institutions like the police, the AG’s Chambers and the judiciary to protect the interests of a group of corrupt politicians and their cronies hijacking the wealth of this country.
