PETALING JAYA, June 28 – Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today questioned the sincerity of the prime minister in announcing a new merit-based scholarship programme obviously aimed at winning back Chinese voter support from Pakatan Rakyat (PR).
“Last time, when I said it, I was called a Chinese agent. Now that Najib has said it what are you going to call him? Is he now a Chinese agent and traitor to the Malays?” said Anwar sarcastically when asked today about the new scholarships to be based purely on merit.
The Opposition Leader has been frequently labelled a “traitor” and “Chinese agent” by Umno leaders since he launched PR’s reform agenda.
Anwar’s PR has successfully used its Ketuanan Rakyat, or supremacy of the people, slogan to differentiate itself from Umno’s Ketuanan Melayu, or supremacy of the Malays, rallying cry which has caused concern even among non-Malay Barisan Nasional (BN) parties.
But Najib, in a speech to Chinese political and community leaders last night, pledged to set up a new “National Scholarship” based entirely on merit, and also indicated his administration’s willingness to eventually drop the racial quotas in more sectors of the economy.
The prime minister’s remarks suggest a concerted effort is finally being made to hijack PR’s more multi-racial platform.
Najib’s pledges on reform seem to also suggest that he believes he can control the potential backlash from Malays while wanting to convince the non-Malays that, even if they have misgivings about Umno and BN, they should have faith in him.
Anwar appeared to acknowledge the threat from Najib today, and claimed the prime minister had only partially adopted the opposition’s agenda but failed to emphasise on protection for the poor.
“When we proposed something, it has to help people regardless of race but at the same time we will protect the poor, that is our approach,” he added.

Najib should be called the biggest liar in Malaysian political history. To ensure his political survival, he will say something today and do the opposite later. Just look at the manner in which he belittled the PAS MB Mohd Nizar time after time, and then he suddenly tries to sweet-talk PAS into forming a Unity Government with UMNO without consulting MCA, MIC, Gerakan and the rest. Now that PAS has rejected his offer, he is going on the warpath against Tuan Guru Nik Aziz. Najib is a man without any moral principles and fiber.

Salam Reformasi DSAI..
Pak MB fully endorsed our Brother “veryupset’s” above remarks for I (myself) prefers to be branded as a “traitor” if that what it takes to “fight for justice”.
I have been a PKR member since its formation but feels very much confortable to be active at the grassroot level. After all, PKR should function more as ‘a football team’. We cant afford to place everyone as strikers. Someone has to be at the midfield or defence. If DSAI is familiar with the game of football, you may then realises that a defender and/or midfielder able to lead a good attack for he has (being at such position) a wider prepective of the field and/or the game thus able (depending on his skill and exposure) to set, initiate and lead the ‘approach of attacks’ deep into the opponent’s side. Maybe that the reason for most of the Teams’ Captains are either midfielders of defenders.
PR seems to be certain of taking over the Goverment by next PRU (if not earlier). As such, Pak MB prefers all PR’s leaders of all levels should (by now) put forward their selected issues more with the tones of ‘leaders of goverment-to-be’ rather than the tones of ‘oppositions’. Through this ‘wiser approach’, Rakyat will firmly endorse PR as their future goverment-taker rather than just a ‘strong opposition’.
Pak MB is always available should DSAI and/or the Party requires further clarification on the above.

Salam Reformasi to Brother veryupset..
Got to share something with you…
Pak MB may have forwarded numerous ideas to the party leaders but none (so far) has been taken into consideration (left alone being responded to..) eventhough Pak MB is one those few veterans who have constant oppotunities of ‘rubbing shoulders’ with party leaders including DSAI at countless gatherings or programs.
As a veteran (56 to be exact..) Pak MB has been exposed to various aspect of life thus able to see things on a much wiser perpectives. Pak MB only wishes is to see DSAI becomes our next PM (PR-led Goverment). Pak MB strongly belief that DSAI & PR must be given the opportunity to lead the Nation as to put many thing back to its proper track. Pak MB could not (at the very momment) think of anyone else besides DSAI (except maybe TG Nik Aziz) that able to lead PR in its quest to take over Goverment from bn. For this only reason that Pak MB will proceed with forwarding strategic ideas to the leaders eventhough none will be even considered.
A leader will only be considered as one if he/she has followers. In our multi-national community, a leader must be well accepted by Rakyat of all races and beliefs.
Fully agreed that DSAI should meet up with people like us who have no political or personal desire/agenda except wanting to see him and PR leading the Nation to a much greater height.

i’m no advocate of the present government, which was why i voted opposition during the 3/18 political tsunami. and i was glad that many malaysians had stood up to exercised their rights to deny BN the 2/3 majority.
but honestly.. what has happened since? we have a louder opposition voice in parliment and… what else?
I’m now an impartial.. neither do i advocate the ruling party or the opposition… they are all just political faces looking for press time…
now najib comes out with a 1 Malaysian policy and this new category of scholarship to be awarded on merit… speaking is one thing and “walking the talk” is another… i’ll be interested on how the present government implements their new policy.
so what does anwar say?
“Last time, when I said it, I was called a Chinese agent. Now that Najib has said it what are you going to call him? Is he now a Chinese agent and traitor to the Malays?” said Anwar sarcastically when asked today about the new scholarships to be based purely on merit.
What is the point of saying that??? the whole point for 3/18 is to have the opposition rise to be more dominant, to have the present government to ‘hear’ what the people have to say about the many years of their dominance…
so now BN comes up with some “ideas” which is in line with what we call a ‘fair society based on merit’, and PR blasts them – saying that it was suggested by them before… what the ****???
stopping short of asking PR to praise BN or forming a joint party, the move should in fact be supported, and PR’s role will now be of ensuring that the new policy / ideas are drafted correctly and implemented, to make sure that BN walk their talk…
now is not the time to be a cry baby… “sob sob… last time i recommend and everybody say bad things about me, now, different… i want the credit…” Anwar, please stand up and be accounted for as the leader of the opposition!! stop being a cry baby, and this goes to all the other opposition leaders as well…
