Tiadanya kebebasan akademik tambah memburukkan keadaan.
Terkesan sekali karya The Opium of the Intellectuals karya Raymond Aron ketika ini.

Mengapa jadi begini?

dasar pendidikan negara kucar-kacir -> haru-biru.
utamanya Menteri Pelajaran tidak berkelayakan (in English not qualified).
letak orang tua yg gagal memahami aspirasi Malaysia Moden.
this is Millenia beb, hadkan 10 subjek adalah langkah mundur.
secara drastiknya limit potensi pelajar2 kita utk menimba ilmu sebanyak mungkin.
bagi pelajar yg pintar/advance, kenapa limitkan potensi mereka sedangkan mereka mampu menguasai walau berbelas subjek sekalipun.
we are talking meritocracy -> adalah berdasarkan kemampuan sebenar pelajar bukan berdasarkan pendapat menteri yg cetek pemikiran & pendek amat akalnya.
satu lg, kenapa BI wajib lulus? kenapa tidak jadikan semua subjek teras wajib lulus?
malaysia’s english (teaching & learning) is still very much lacking in facilities & quality of teaching the subject & that is why students are less interested to master it.
we have to admit our weaknesses & setbacks first before moving forward for the next steps.
& this is where the Minister failed to understand!

Pendidikan malaysia ketinggalan zaman, bahasa inggeris and bahasa melayu ibarat 2 mata patut diutamakan.

AT LAST!
If Pakatan wins the election in 2012/13, and given that Keadilan has the majority in Pakatan, then Anwar will finally be Malaysia’s PM at the ripe old age of 65. If not, Anwar will pass 70 by the next shot and would have been a have been.
It would have been redemption of a nice consolatory sort. Anwar by right has lost his chances. He was 51 went removed as deputy in 1998 and has since wasted 6 years languishing in jail and a good 10 years till 2008 altogether. Anwar is no longer the bright young Islamic firebrand student activist he was in the 70s. Those were the days. He is old.
Given those wasted years, it is now impossible for Anwar to establish a long legacy like that of Mahathir or Lee Kuan Yew, who went through long years charting numerous endeavors.
The only possible reason and purpose left for Anwar to be PM is simple to accomplish his reform agenda.
My guess is that Anwar might another Mandela or Aung Sang Su Kyi; spending an entire life fighting the institutions and establishments, only to finally win, bring about the change fought for, and bow down in victory, triumph and accomplishment. Anwar is a reformer.
It is not just the PMship, but rather the entire journey that counts.
Anwar should bank on his high local standing and international profile to move to the forefront of national and international arena even now and more so regardless of whether he become PM or not. He is already well established.
Mahathir the builder, Anwar the reformer.
ENIGMA
On one prespective is Mahathir the builder, modernizer, patriot, nationalist, international statesman and great strongman of Malaysia. On the opposite side is Mahathir the dictator who suppressed democracy, freedom and human rights.
Usually one is either the hero or the villain; very seldom both. So which is it?
BADAWI FINALLY HAS MET HIS DAMAI ABADI
Funny a guy infamous for his sleeping habits actually openly penned a poem whose title spells the words DAMAI ABADI. Where better to obtain everlasting peace than from a good beauty sleep. It couldn’t have been more fitting for Abdullah.
Abdullah Badawi has been discontented with Mahathir for so long (simply because of his management approach).
In 2003 he had the chance to finally set the record straight, show Malaysians what he believes is the right way of doing things, and in the process simultaneously expose Mahathir’s folly…even though he too has many shortcomings that he and everyone else far too knows about.
He had his chance.
Now he should leave Mahathir and his legacy alone.
I will not go to the extent of saying whether Mahathir is worthy of such honour. But that is not important. Many legends have been overrated. Abdullah does not understand that it is also the appeal, persona, charisma and many other personal qualities flowing out from a man that endure to the people and turns this man into a legend. At times performance and actual accomplishment is but the last criterion.
It is good for Malaysia to have a great leader and a national hero for a legend.
He who can’t go the extra mile should not stop those who can.
Now that Abdullah Badawi has done his thing, undone Mahathir’s thing and stepped down, he can finally get lots of sleep. Banyak damai ABADI…..ABADI (forever).
KNOCKED OUT BY A BRIDGE
Abdullah Badawi in his finally interview as PM claimed that “the bridge was all that Mahathir cared about and the rest is just an elaboration (of the bridge).”
One of the main reasons attributed to Badawi’s heavy loss in the elections was Mahathir’s stringent criticism of Badawi’s administration and the problems Malaysia faces. Many hot issues from the economy to crime echoed Mahathir’s strongest points.
Had Mahathir not fought, would Abdullah have fared better enough to remain in power? And Abdullah claimed all Mahathir cared about was that crooked bridge. That means Abdullah was knocked out of power simply because of one miserable bridge. Pathetic!
PUSHING FORWARD THE DATE OF DESTINY
Our PMs are too old. You started in 1981 at 56 the retirement age. You started work when others start retirement! Abdullah was PM at 64! Muyiddin is already 62. You only became internationally well-known in your 70s. Our country is being ruled by grandfathers and great-grandfathers. Great!
Lee Kuan Yew became PM at the tender age of 42. Kennedy and Clinton took their oath in their 40s. Yet the UMNO Youth Chiefs are older.
All this about political maneuvering and position jostling all his life only to finally become PM in his twilight years…
THE RESURECTION
Two of Malaysia’s best known national figures have made an impressive comeback: Mahathir and Anwar. Coincidentally they were both formerly together and later fought each other.
Abdullah Badawi was dealt 3 blows the day Mahathir returned.
1. Mahathir’s surprise enterance at the UMNO assembly and worse still the rousing welcome and overwhelming show of support by the delegates. Abdullah was also present. I wonder how he hid his face.
2. Mahathir’s live telecasted campaign in Bukit Gantang, where he was treated like a pop star by the largest gathering ever in a long while.
3. Matathir was warmly welcomed back into UMNO by Najib, and was later seen together with Najib officiating the new Proton Exora.
3 strikes and you’re out. Since then there was never a sight of Abdullah Badawi ever again.
Abdullah Badawi was blown again, this time by Anwar.
1. Abdullah saw it wrongly. Having the elections sees no different for Anwar as he is still free to campaign and do everything else under the sun, except contest. No difference.
2. After Anwar is eligible and he contests in an exclusive by-election with the entire spotlight on him alone. Wouldn’t it be indifferent and therefore better for Anwar to be sworn in with the rest of the pack so as not to highlight him?
3. At winning he makes a grand entire into parliament for swearing-in; nothing short of a grand resurrection. Again wouldn’t it be indifferent and therefore better for Anwar to be sworn in with the rest of the pack so as not to highlight him? Why make another pop star out of him? For nothing…right Abdullah???
CATCH THE BIG FISH
Due to total news blackout I’m not sure how well he is doing on the international front. However I would advise him to go to the mainstream; to the forefront of the issue and agenda. Join big and reputable organizations; groups which have widespread publicity and are at the very centre of things. Ignore insignificant participations and smaller parties. Mix with the big shots, or at least people who can bring you to the very top and make you an international figure. Then you will be truly an international statesman and not just an Asian or regional one. In this case history will place you in the hall of fame alongside the greatest people of this earth; alongside Genghis Khan and Stalin and Alexander and Mandela.
THAT DREADED SHIRT
There is this one particular shirt which you often wear in many official functions which makes you look slouchy and apak-like. Apak is Chinese for poor uncle.
The rest of your attire such as the full suit, shirt and even the Baju Melayu is fine by me.
Get rid of that dreaded shirt.
WHY NO MONUMENT?
I must conclude by now that Malaysia is not fond or eracting great monuments or honouring men of renown.
Walls and streets of Cities in Europe teem with statues of leaders, revolutionaries, aristocrats, generals, crusaders, philosophers and the likes.
There is not a single monument in Kuala Lumpur!
Wouldn’t it be logical and right to – in addition to preserving Dataran Merdeka as the venue of independence – also to erect a statue of our founding father Tunku Abdul Rahman on that very spot in which he proclaimed independence? Is there a more fitting tribute? Need I say more?
On a related issue I would like to stress my opinion that word Putrajaya doesn’t quite honour Tunku Abdul Rahman. Why? Putra is the forth word in his complete name and not even part of his first/main name. His main name is Tunku Abdul Rahman, followed by Putra Al-Haj. Putra might even be his father’s name. Obviously the proper name for the new administrative centre should simply have been ‘Tunku Abdul Rahman’.
I hope the government will not forget to erect statues of Mahathir, Anwar and hopefully Rafidah and the rest when all is over. But alas, I fear I will be disappointed again.
Now of course the opposite should be said for statues of colonists. Only a nitwit would preserve the statue of Stamford Raffles or Francis Light. At the very strike of midnight of independence these statues should be thorn down and burned.
THE UFO WHICH LANDED IN THE WRONG CITY.
What is that UFO called the Putrajaya International Convention Centre doing atop that hill in Putrajaya? Don’t get me wrong; it’s a beautiful piece of architecture. But given its metallic, modern appeal, would it be more sensible as a science centre in Cyberjaya the Hi-tech city instead? And why does our Science Centre look like a golf and country club with that golf ball in the centre?
Worse still is that visiting leaders during the photo opportunity outside Perdana Putra wonderfully face and point towards the UFO. They should be facing a monument or another complex perhaps.
The Putrajaya Landmark is another piece of modern metal sculpture that is better off being the landmark for Cyberjaya. Obviously the proper landmark for Putrajaya should have been some sort of stone monument or statue. And the wonderful Cyberjaya landmark spelling CYBERJAYA in alternating blue and green one on top of the other resembles children’s playing alphabet blocks.
Another building is the parliament. Two halls, many floors! Why is the two-hall parliament (upper and lower house) situated in a multi-storey commercial office skyscraper building? Should it be in a proper hall/complex/court?
Anyway, it’s not that bad, that is, compared with other countries. The Kremlin resembles onions, Taipei 101 a bamboo shoot, and Singapore’s brand new amphitheatre looks like (and stinks like) Durians.
Don’t get me wrong. I’m not insulting the buildings. I’m merely questioning the rational behind its style.
SHIFTING THE CAPITAL.
Putrajaya should be the new capital city of Malaysia.
The administration is there.
The Agong’s palace and Parliament should rightly move there too.
And apart from e-government what does Putrajaya have to do with technology and the MSC? Putrajaya is just like any other administrative government centre.
ABDULLAH’S MISSES
Cakapkan orang sendiri lebih. Abdullah in his busyness picking splinters in Mahathir’s eyes missed the plank in his.
Abdullah repaired the public service. He missed inserting the KPI (key performance index).
Abdullah carried out reforms encouraging openness, justice and human rights?
Why didn’t he review the ISA? Why didn’t he release any detainees?
Abdullah pushed for biotechnology. Why wasn’t Biovalley revived?
Abdullah promoted agriculture. Why didn’t he review the Agricultural Policy? Shouldn’t he have insert clauses on Biotech?
Abdullah tried to be best friends with Bush, Blair and Howard of developed countries. Abdullah officiated the Iskandar Growth Region as well as the Penang monorail, second bridge and PGCC skyscraper. Yet at the same time he ‘mencari damai abadi’, promotes agriculture, cut the budget deficit and adopts a simple Kampong Sg. Penchala lifestyle. Very contradicting!
KL
PLANNED cities have existed since the dawn of time. Egypt, Rome, Paris, New York and Putrajaya are amongst them just to name a few.
For those who do not know, a planned city, to put it simply, is simply a city that is PLANNED.
Among the hallmarks and most fundamental characteristic of a planned city are the straight and well-arranged position of building. You would notice that in Paris or Rome buildings are built according to grid, and are built parrarel and perpendicular to one another. Buildings are straight and nice.
Who didn’t plan KL?
Buildings sprout all over the place in one big mess! Even from the sky-bridge one can see that all the buildings are crookedly positioned in adjacent to one another.
Another matter is the shape of these buildings. Many cities have codes and regulations for buildings. In some cities a building must be of a certain height. In Washington DC buildings cannot breach a certain height and skyscrapers are forbidden. On the contrary in New York buildings approved must be of some sort of skyscraper.
However in KL building come in various shapes and sizes. One looks like an hour-glass, another is so stout, and some even have roofs at the top!
There must be some form of uniformity.
Of all things a building is most unalterable of them all. Laws can be amended, goods can be returned, typo errors can be deleted or erased, and ill-placed furniture can be shifted.
How do you shift or alter a building (other than demolishing it of course)? Once an architectural or a positioning mistake is made, that’s it. Finish! The building will be rooted to the ground forever.
I’m not blaming you. The only argument that can be attached is that virtually all these building were approved and constructed during the 90s Asian economic boom, i.e. during your time.
Even little townships like PJ or newer ones by Sime Darby are planned. Of all cities and towns in Malaysia the very capital of our country is not planned. Amazing!
SIAPA LANTIK ABDULLAH…SEBAGAI MERTERI LUAR?
It is an open secret that generally ministers of finance, foreign affairs, defense are powerful, some as powerful as the PM himself.
In many countries the leader of the second largest coalition party is the finance or foreign minister. Strong party stalwarts and potential PMs-in-waiting have also held such portfolios, for instance Gordon Brown and Paul Martin, who go on to become PM. Even former and retired PMs and presidents have returned as finance or foreign ministers, among them Miyazawa, Hillary Clinton and Shimon Peres. Not to mention also other returnees such as Colin Powell, Donald Rumsfield and Paul Wolfowitz.
Among Abdullah Badawi’s shortcoming in this aspect are his international presence and his speech problems.
Abdullah Badawi speaks English with thick local accent. In addition, he has speaking difficulties. He can’t articulate well, and his speeches are too basic. In prepared speeches, he shoots off like a robot.
How is he going to establish any kind of contact – personal or business whatsoever –with anyone from abroad? How are they going to perceive Malaysia, given that the Foreign Minister is the spokesperson and ambassador (and to some extent unofficial salesman) for the country? In 9 years as foreign minister, he has yet to establish any sort of friendship with anyone overseas. How to leverage any deals or favours?
I also noticed the common ministerial path towards Prime Ministership, i.e. from sports to education to defence/home/finance to DPM (or somewhere around this line).
Abdullah Badawi too trotted a similar path, from Minister in PM’s dept to education to defense to foreign affairs. Was he in line to be PM then? What was his position in Umno and the government? I know he won the Vice-Presidency 4 times but was he popular and earmarked for the top? What about Anwar, Najib and Rafidah?
Having said this, I think we should not hammer Abdullah anymore. He has gone through enough. Give him a breather.

LEGACY AND LEGENDS: HOW GREAT IS GREAT?
In case you missed it the first time…
Imagine if all the greatest people since the dawn of time were ranked from first to last; where would you stand?
GO THE DISTANCE
In Malaysia you are great beyond; none higher. However on the international front you fallen short. Please compare the overwhelming support and outpouring adoration of Malaysian with other countries. Some probably just know your name, full stop. You have to reach out to all the people of the world the same extent to which you did to Malaysian, like for as if you were President of the United States or even leader of the entire world. You must do more. Unlike others you have 8 mantles and you are active on international issues; slightly better than the average Asian strongman. You are very close. Separate yourself from the pack and go the distance.
TOO MANY AT ONCE
Already in this very split second of a moment in time, there is Nelson Mandela, Margaret Thatcher, Yasser Arafat, Mother Teresa, Lee Kuan Yew, and many others. Not to mention also living legend from other fields such as Bill Gates, Marlon Brando, Princess Diana, Michael Jackson and Marilyn Monroe just to name a few. What more in a 100 years and forget a thousand; the list is endless!
WORLD-FAMOUS (not just Asia)
You are not to be famous and statesman-ly mere in Asia or the Islamic world or any region. You are to be a statesman and legend to the world. You are not to go from Malaysia to Asia or worse still from Asia to Asia. You are to go FROM Asia, TO the world. TO the world!
FROM…..ASIA TO………..the WORLD!
…An Asian statesman (or European or African or Latin or whatever) simply because you herald from Asia; but INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED.
Too many names from Time Magazine’s 60 years of Asian Heroes did not make it into Time Magazine’s 100 greatest people of the 20th Century. Why? …Obviously because they were not great enough. Their greatness was only enough to lift them to an Asian level, but not the world. I hope you are not one of them.
Besides, there are already too many strongmen in Asia. Almost every country in Asia and even Africa has at least some sort of strongman. There is no more significance; nothing special anymore.
LUCKY LEE
Speaking of Asia Lee Kuan Yew is lucky. Singapore is in a unique position in the world as it stands out as one of the very few (if not the only) island city states. Moreover, Singapore uniquely sits at this historically famous aast-west entrepot crossroad, further cementing is name as a modern, prosperous economic, financial and business hub of which on it lies the world-famous world No 1 port (and also airport). That’s how Lee Kuan Yew became a household name…because of Singapore.
By right looking closely Lee Kuan Yew’s influence was only up to an Asian level. He hardly stood higher or spoke louder than others on the international front. I do not recall Lee Kuan Yew introducing any particular policy, program or mega project that specifically added towards Singapore’s growth and improvement. He merely oversaw Singapore’s natural transformation into a Tiger economic from what was already – given Singapore’s easy small size, strategic position and urban population – an outrightly foregone potential in a then already well established and developed capital of the Straits Settlement. Lee Kuan Yew simply sat through the job.
SO CLOSE YET SO FAR
There is nothing worse than to be so close yet so far. Losing doesn’t compare. Rather be out of the running than to be a close second separated by the second (or millimeter or any smallest measurement). There’s no place but first place.
Even the Bible makes a reference to this by saying it is better to be cold if not hot rather than being lukewarm, going further to say that Jesus will spit these ‘lukewarmers’ out of his mouth.
WHO KNOWS
I’m not sure as to whether the great leaders of the past are as great as people claim them to be. Let me air my doubts as to why.
In saying past I mean dinosaurs like Jesus Christ (and other religious figures), Plato (and the rest of the philosophers), Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan, Shi Huang Ti, Asoka, Napoleon Bonaparte, Queen Victoria, Caesar, some Pharoah and the likes. The list also includes musicians and scientists like Beethoven and Newton among others.
Firstly I doubt because mostly of these figures are held highly by the west. Perhaps something about the west and how they perceive make them like these people over others.
Secondly, no one particularly those today would possibly know what these so-called legends actually did or accomplished and therefore no one would know exactly how great they really were.
The people today rely on (historical) written, handed-down records to judge these people. There was no film footage or even photographs. And there is only so much a record can tell. We can’t visually even to the closest of extents the true situation of their chronicles. We can only imagine based on what was written. And no ones know whether that which was written is true. All these are mere assumptions.
Genghis Khan might merely be a Jaguh Kampung. Alexander the Great might not be so great after all. His influence might only extent to part of Europe here and there. We wouldn’t know.
Their greatness can easily be spun upwards (or downwards) by the intellectuals and authors.
I’m not too sure whether Mandela is adorned by China. Do African honour Gandhi? The only people who honour all of the above are the western universalists.
WESTERN FAVOURITES
I notice that the west particularly Englishman (Americans included) are very fond of honouring two types of people as great and befitting of legends: freedom-fighter, and rulers of great empires. They stand in awe of great men who lead armies and fight courageous battles to conquer and build their empire. On the other hand these very same people adore peace-loving freedom fighter like Mandela, Gandhi and Suu Kyi who advocate freedom and justice.
OVERNIGHT FAME
There are short-cuts and quick fixes into becoming famous internationally overnight. One way is to be involved in something so big in the world that this project upon launch immediately propels a person into instant stardom. Daniel Radcliffe a nobody became an overnight sensation after the release of the first Harry Potter film and since the subsequent release of its sequels he has only gone from strength to strength. The other way is to say/do something so stupid that people just can’t get it out of their heads.
MEASURING GREATNESS
One way of measuring a person’s greatness is by pitting him against another great man. A truly great man will not be diminished by another. The meeting between Roger Federer and Tiger Woods for instance is a meeting between great men. However say if an ordinary leader were to meet Mandela, this person will be immediately dwarfed and ‘subdued’ by this man and his greatness.
Another way of measuring a person’s greatness is by pitting him against a great phenomenon or a historical event of this earth, for instance 911 or the tsunami. Again the greatest of men will not be overwhelmed by such events in the sight of others. Their perspective of him in the news or other material is that he is just as large and nothing is taken from him. A lesser man however would seem sidelined and unheeded in the wake of such catastrophic events.
RATING MAHATHIR
In Malaysia Mahathir (i.e. you) has reached the pinnacle of greatness; terbilang; as far as the sky would take him. He is a national hero, warrior/crusader, statesman and legend. He is the stuff stories and movies are made off. Anwar still has a bit more to go. Rafidah only needs the opportunity and then she must move faster than she already is.
I believe and I can see that Mahathir has somehow reached even further than a Asian level of statesmanship probably because of all the world issues he has been championing on the international arena. However, on the world front, I believe there is still a short distance more to go. Why? This is simply because Mahathir has just been pushing from the sidelines and not directly involved inside the centre itself.
WANING TOO FAST?
It is normal for a leader’s popularity and influence to wane once he has stepped down and is out of the limelight. This goes the same for legends: they would be heard and seen less on TV and in the papers; however their legend and memory should live long after him, and definitely so while he is alive and a living legend. He should not be so easily removed and forgotten. However if a great leader and statesman like yourself sees your influence waning drastically, there might be cause for concern.
HOME GROUND SUPPORT – exaggerating the truth?
I wonder whether you are really as great or is it the Malaysian media which is exaggerating (spinning upwards). I’m not being skeptic but it is good to have a true and fair viewpoint. Then we can assess correctly and make the necessary adjustments forward.
US PRESIDENCY
The US Presidency does not guarantee legendary status and greatness. It is only a ticket which the President must walk through and build upon by exemplifying greatness to truly become great. Yes, the President is automatically and international person, but a lacksure and ordinary performance will see him merely becoming one of the many presidents and merely a diplomat and a hire agent for international affair. He will be just like the UN secretary-General: just doing his job, only that it is on an international scale; there is nothing great about that. It does give him a clear head-start though.
GO THE THE USA (HOLLYWOOD)
I notice US political figure and Hollywood celebrities get instant international fame. A person who aspires to dominate the world should establish himself in the US. Don’t get me wrong. I’m not talking about Europe or the entire west; just the United States of America. It’s so happens that the USA is a western nation, that’s all. United States is the centre of the world. Yes there are some small TV dramas and local acts which hardly make it pass their own border. However, many moderate yet well-established people, films and other endeavors easily become a worldwide phenomenon. Their movie and TV soaps broadcast throughout hundreds of countries; literally the entire globe. Whoever is well established in the US most likely will be an international icon.
DOUBLE FAMOUS
Footballer David Beckham and Spice Girl Victoria Adams were both already extremely popular in their respective fields. However, their marriage boosted their popularity beyond popular. The same went to other Hollywood ‘power couples’. Arnold Swazenegger was well-known as Mr. Universe, extremely famous as a Hollywood action hero, and now beyond famous as the Govenor of California. Cemerlang, then gemilang, and finally terbilang. There’s always room for improvement.
CONCLUSION
This passage is not just directed to you but also your think-tank and supporters. Once you pass on they are the ones who must work hard to establish your legacy adequately.
I hope this study on how to be great is helpful to you. I welcome any feedback. I do hope you will make it to the extreme heights of greatness of the world equal to Alexander and Mandela.

Assalamualaikum Wb. YB DSAI dan saudara budiman. Setelah 52 tahun merdeka, kita masih merasakan dasar pendidikan negara serba kekurangan.
Wallahualam

Contoh kegagalan? Mana statistik? Tahun 70an bila BM digunakan barulah anak Melayu masuk UNI membuat Medic,Sains, Engine .
Jangan marahkan nyamuk, kelambu dibakar! Dah tahu tak pandai BI, pergilah kelas BI.

Kebanyakan penyokong pembangkang sekarang marahkan nyamok kelambu dibakar macam kamu kata.

Sepatutnya engkau pergi bakar Kementerian Pelajaran. Apa bingai silibus 11 tahun belajar BI tak pandai-pandai. Bukannya buat PPSMI.
Tun sayangkan Melayu? Pergi mabuklah. Tun yang menghapuskan biasiswa, bantuan sekolah Sekoalh ASgama Rakyat, menghina ulamak, nabi. Menyekat royalti pada terengganu yang 95% Melayu.
Salam Pejuangan DSAI,
