SHAH ALAM, Feb 22 – Just shy of a year into his tenure as mentri besar of Selangor, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim is promising that his administration will soon begin to “walk the talk” despite facing fierce political adversity.
In an exclusive interview with The Malaysian Insider this week, Khalid said he was confident that the best efforts of his political opponents would serve only to sweeten the final victory.
The latest scandal to afflict the state executive council – the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission’s (MACC) allegations of abuse of state funds in the purchase of cattle and maintenance of his private vehicle, has followed hot on the heels of semi-naked pictures of Elizabeth Wong surfacing.

FEB 20 — Fewer than half of Malaysians are confident that the newly-minted Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) will be effective in tackling graft in the country, a recent survey showed.
Expect the number of believers to drop even further after today, following the sham of a performance by Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan, the head of the MACC.
Let’s get this out of the way. Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim may have abused his position as the Selangor Mentri Besar and used state funds to maintain his sports utility vehicle and buy 104 heads of cattle to be slaughtered in his constituency. He may have. Who knows?

GEORGE TOWN: DAP chairman Karpal Singh is questioning what he described as the “unholy haste” at which the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission announced it had good and strong evidence against Selangor Mentri Besar Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim for abuse of power.
“As MP (Bukit Gelugor), I demand to know from the chief commissioner, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan, the basis on which he made this very serious statement publicly.”
He said it was a very serious matter for Ahmad Said to publicly announce, before a decision was made to prosecute, that the commission had good and strong evidence that Khalid misused his powers over the maintenance of his personal car and the distribution of 46 cows for slaughter in his Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary constituency.

PETALING JAYA, Feb 21 — Describing the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) as a “letdown and a joke”, DAP parliamentary leader Lim Kit Siang today call for the resignation of the chief commissioner as the MACC has failed to build public confidence and be feared and respected by all.
Lim, the MP for Ipoh Timor, said Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan has reduced the MACC into a “Malaysian Agency for Car and Cows” for the Barisan Nasional to victimise Pakatan Rakyat instead of another ICAC (Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption) respected worldwide for its fight against corruption.
“The unprecedented statement by Ahmad Said that the MACC has ‘good and strong evidence’ of corruption against the Selangor Pakatan Rakyat Menteri Besar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim over the car and cows controversy has destroyed whatever credibility the MACC might have among Malaysians that it would be independent, professional and uninfluenced by the dictates of its political masters,” said Lim.

Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, wrote an article about fascism which appeared in Free Inquiry magazine, a journal of humanist thought. Dr. Britt studied the fascist regimes of Hitler (Germany), Mussolini (Italy), Franco (Spain), Suharto (Indonesia), and Pinochet (Chile).
He found the regimes all had 14 things in common, and he calls these the identifying characteristics of fascism. The article is titled “Fascism Anyone?” and appears in Free Inquiry’s Spring 2003 issue on page 20.

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Feb 2009: Death threats, bullets in the mail and a sting operation in collaboration with the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). There were among the “evidence” cited by Pakatan Rakyat (PR) de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in his accusation that the Barisan Nasional (BN) has been “bribing and threatening” PR assemblypersons.
He said V Arumugam, who resigned as Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Bukit Selambau assemblyperson and Kedah executive councillor (exco) on 8 Feb, had, among other things, received a phone call warning him to “not be so active in politics”, lest his fate mirrored that of the late Lunas assemblyperson Joe Fernandez, who was shot dead in 2000.

KUALA LUMPUR (Feb 19, 2009) : Opposition leader and Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de-facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim alleged that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) had yet to act against Barisan Nasional (BN) agents including former Kedah Menteri Besar and Kedah BN chairman Datuk Seri Mahazir Khalid despite concrete evidence of enticement recorded by commission officers themselves.
Revealing this in the Dewan Rakyat during his debate on the royal address, Anwar in speaking about the alleged bribes, kidnapping and threats used to lure Pakatan Rakyat (PR) elected representatives to leave the party or jump ship said Kulim assemblyman Lim Soo Nee who was one of those who were lured had been used as a bait by the commission to gather evidence against the agents.
“On April 11, 2008, I received a report that BN agents representing Mahazir had offered Lim RM4 million to defect to BN, and this sum was later raised to RM5 million,” he said.
