Ketua Pembangkang, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim mendakwa, kerajaan Barisan Nasional yang diketuai Umno, menggunakan kuasa kuku besi untuk menindas dan membungkam rakyat Malaysia yang berani bangkit bersuara demi kebenaran dan integriti.
“Mereka teguh menyuarakan ketidakpuasan hati mereka terhadap segala penyalahgunaan kuasa, korupsi dan politik perkauman yang sering dimainkan oleh elit pemerintah,” katanya dalam satu kenyataan hari ini.
Anwar turut mengulangi kecamannya terhadap ISA dan penggunaannya untuk menahan penulis blog serta aktivis terkenal Raja Petra Kamaruddin, Ahli Parlimen Seputeh yang juga exco kerajaan Selangor, Teresa Kok dan wartawan Sin Chew Daily, Tan Hoon Cheng.
“Pada 8 Mac dan kemudiannya pada 26 Ogos, rakyat Malaysia menyuarakan hasrat mereka agar terbentuknya sebuah kerajaan yang bertanggungjawab dan mampu untuk memenuhi aspirasi rakyat.
“Barisan Nasional yang diketuai Umno sudah sekian lama mengabaikan tanggungjawab ini,” kata Anwar yang juga penasihat PKR dan ahli Parlimen Permatang Pauh.
Bagaimanapun, tegas Anwar, mereka gagal untuk memenuhi tuntutan perubahan, malah sanggup untuk menggadaikan negara ini bagi menyelamatkan diri sendiri serta untuk mengekalkan kuasa mereka.
“Kita tertanya-tanya sejauh mana kerajaan ini sanggup untuk menidakkan keadilan, menghancurkan institusi kenegaraan dan mengadu domba rakyat Malaysia yang berbilang kaum.
“Kami secara tegas menolak politik perkauman yang dimainkan oleh ahli politik Barisan Nasional yang diketuai Umno, apa yang berlaku jelas merupakan satu usaha mereka untuk mengalih perhatian rakyat
dari masalah dalaman Umno yang kian memburuk.
Masyarakat berbilang kaum
“Kami pimpinan Pakatan Rakyat bertekad serta berjanji bahawa kami tetap komited untuk membina masyarakat berbilang kaum yang teguh.
“Kami ingin menyorot pandangan semua kepada kenyataan Pakatan Rakyat yang dikeluarkan pada 8 September lalu.
“Kenyataan itu membuktikan iltizam kami untuk menjunjung jaminan yang termaktub di dalam Perlembagaan termasuklah kedudukan Islam sebagai agama rasmi, hak rakyat Malaysia untuk mengamalkan
agama masing-masing, Bahasa Melayu sebagai bahasa kebangsaan dan hak kaum masing-masing untuk menggunakan bahasa ibunda mereka dan kedudukan Raja-Raja Melayu serta kedudukan istimewa
orang Melayu dan bumiputera lainnya.
“Kami menggesa kerajaan untuk memberi jaminan kepada rakyat Malaysia bahawa operasi yang bermotifkan politik ini sudah berakhir,” katanya.
Anwar berkata, sebagai rakyat negara ini yang bertekad untuk mematuhi semangat keperlembagaan, “kita sudah tidak mahu lagi hidup di dalam ketakutan”.
“Kami menggesa sesiapa sahaja yang ditahan dibawah ISA mestilah dibebaskan segera.
“Kami juga menawarkan sokongan yang tidak berbelah bahagi kepada rakan-rakan kita yang ditahan serta keluarga mereka tatkala melalui saat-saat sukar ini,” katanya.

If PR has the numbers in terms of the requisite MPs, pls, just do it. Do the cross over & save this great nation, & its wonderful ppl. The longer we wait, even a day, the harder it seems to get. And more good people are sacrificed & victimised along the way….
Many ppl comment that the present Gov is crumbling. Mayb Badawi is. Perhaps even UMNO. But pls, never under-estimate their ability to consolidate their position. Esp when the going gets tough. Esp when Mahathir still lurks around the corner waiting to make his killer moves - if he hasn’t begun already.
Datu Seri, if you are playing chess with say, Bobby Fisher, and you happen to chance upon some moves that would check mate him in two steps, why delay the conclusion of the game any further? Such a player, wily & cunning, if you don’t mate him within those moves, will find his way out, somehow.
And that is precisely what UMNO & Mahathir are capable of. Do not think that TDM is just sitting behind his computer & blogging the night away. You took him on once in your UMNO days. And he nearly obliterated you - not just with might, but with wicked cunningness. This was seen when he released the so-call “crony name list” in that particular UMNO Gen Assembly where your then rising star finally fell.
May I offer that you do it today? Sept 16, whilst symbolic, will remain just that to many Malaysians, at the rate this Gov’n is moving in for the kill. It is time for action now. Gen Patton didn’t continue to offer his famous “Speech to the Third Army” forever; the very next moment, he was at the beach of Normandy together with the rest of the Aliied Forces.
We need to descend on our own “Normandy” now. Today. We are facing our own D-Day. The existence & securing of those 30 or so MPs is crucial, just as securing the beach head was in WW2.
Datuk Seri, when PR MPs left for Taiwan to strategise their next moves with the BN MPs, I wondered why that was necessary. Especially if PR has been consistently stating that they are sure of having the numbers & forming the Gov’n. At the back of my mind, & even when I discuss with a few other ppl, is every thing already water-tight? If so, why was there a necessity to drop in to secure etc the targeted MPs? If we had the numbers, why don’t we just make the move?
I am sorry, but when I saw the smirk on Najib’s face yesterday, when he was asked what he thought of PR MPs going over to Taiwan, there was nary a hint of anxiety on him. It looked as tho he was cock sure that the take-over of the Gov is not going to happen. He ain’t stupid - not when it comes to political survival; he’s the Defence Minister - we must not under-estimate his intelligence network.
Your request for a meet with Badawi, well, there’s only 2 things that I believe you can discuss at this moment. One - really discuss national security. Knowing Badawi & UMNO & their mindset, there’s no way the goons are going to agree to meet up with PR, especially your team. I can’t imagine Badawi running this thru thsi suggestion with Khairy, & the latter giving a “ok pop. let’s do it”. I mean, they are not interested in National Security, peace, prosperity etc. The only thing they care about is their own survival.
Two - you are meeting Badawi to request the handover. But once again, I doubt Badawi is simply going to roll the red carpet & welcome with you with a cherry laden smile, & say, “Ok. I’ll step down.”
No way Datuk Seri - this is UMNO we are talking about here.
And so Datuk Seri, looking at how the events are developing & unfolding, I hope you & PR would do what you plan, sooner. If indeed, you can.
I hope to be wrong in my present lack of enthusiasm, but that is the least of the worries for many Malaysians who have pinned their hopes & dreams on PR & Sep 16.
