KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 -Sin Chew Daily reporter Tan Hoon Cheng, the person who first reported on Bukit Bendera MP Ahmad Ismail’s racial remarks, was arrested under the Internal Security Act (ISA) tonight.
Tan was picked up from her home in Bukit Mertajam at 8.30 tonight.
The arrest tonight comes on the same day as the detention of prominent blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin, also under the ISA.
Both arrests followed Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Badawi’s warning this week that the ISA would be used to calm rising racial tensions in the country.
Three newspapers – Suara Keadilan, Sin Chew Daily and The Sun – were also issued show cause letters by the Home Ministry today.
Racial tensions have been on the rise since Ahmad’s controversial comments that the Chinese in Malaysia were squatters, was made during the recent Permatang Pauh by election campaign.
Ahmad’s comments and subsequent defiance of his party president Abdullah has also happened amid instability within Umno, with renewed calls for Abdullah to leave office ahead of 2010, the year in which he has promised to hand over power to deputy Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak.
Today’s arrests also happened ahead of September 16, the day in which Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says his Pakatan Rakyat (PR) alliance would topple the Barisan Nasional (BN) government.
Earlier today, Raja Petra was detained under Section 73 (1) of the ISA for being a threat to security, peace and public order.
Under the detention orders, he will be detained for 60 days. The Home Minister can extend the detention order at the end of that period.

Today is a very sad day for Malaysia. Brave and honest people like Raja Petra and Tan Hoon Cheng become victims of a government so terrified and desperate to lose power, that they would resort to whatever means, at whatever cost.
We the rakyat, fellow bloggers and NGO’s may pray and protest peacefully, hold candlelight vigils and post our views in the alternative media – and these we will do. However, at the end of the day, we need someone to get Malaysia away from this cruel and corrupt regime.
DSAI, I don’t know what your plans really are, but I hope and I will now have to believe that you will take over the Government very soon. Rest assured that when you become the PM, you will have many willing Malaysians helping you rebuild this country.

7. Members of political parties, sms your leaders to pressure them to voice out

1. All government employees must ensure the Govt dept files are not removed from the Govt office by the dept heads from today onwards before Pakatan Rakyat takes over.
2. All must wear Jalur Gemilang colours like red, blue, yellow or white from today until Pakatan Rakyat takes over.
3. Pakatan Rakyat must print 5,000,000 t-shirts or stickers for the rakyat to wear from now till, ditto…

I read with dismay and shocked over the arrest especially of the reporter. What I dun understand is how come the one making the racist comments is not arrested, but the one reporting is? The signs of another Ops Lallang are slowly but surely emerging. UMNO has now become desperate as it cannot counter the opposition any more. It is using the ISA as a last resort. But this is 2008 and not 1987. The people especially the Malays have already rejected UMNO as can be seen i in the 8 Mar general election and 26 Aug Permatang Pauh by-election. The Malays must now come up openly to reject UMNO. All those UMNO MPs who still have their conscience, should now defect to PR to make DSAI’s 16 Sept a reality. The Agong will then have to act to remove Pak Lah as PM and force UMNO into the opposition. God help Malaysia.

There are 2 models where UMNO has successfully used in the past to solve their own internal conflict.
In the 1969 model, Tun Abdul Razak used the riots to instate an Emergency and eventually force Tunku Abdul Rahman out of power.
In the 1987 model, where a massive internal struggle within Umno moved Mahathir to attack imaginary exterior “enemies (non-malays)” in a massive Operation Lallang to strengthen his own fledgling position within UMNO.
There is now an internal struggle within UMNO like in 1969 as well as fledgling support from the malay voters as in 1987. So their natural instinct is to apply a combination of the 2 models to solve their own internal problems.
To kill two birds with one stone, they intend to create riots to instate an emergency rule to prevent Anwar from toppling the present UMNO Government. Coupled with this, they will also make imaginary “exterior enemies” out of thin air to justify a Operation Lallang II to strengthen their own fledgling position with the malays. Their intention is to make one race hate another race and appease one race by arresting the other to shore up their fledgling support!
Guys, don’t fall for their tricks and help them to solve their internal problems! Remember the saying – to be cheated once, shame on you… but to be cheated twice, shame on me!

Whatever it is, just don’t go to the streets to protest.That’s what they want.They want to create another May 13th.Stay calm and let them sink in their own chaos.
First they take out RPK to ensure there’s one less strong genuine voice from the Malay side.Second they hunt down a Chinese journalist and a Chinese MP to instigate the community.Now they will wait to see how to move next to create more havoc till it’s really conducive for them to stage a “riot” with their own machinery. They can win now but i can never bring myself to vote for them for rest of my life. I did that mistake in the last general election but today I’m ashamed for allowing a horrible beast to run my country.All i want is a clean government that doesn’t incite hatred among fellow Malaysians. I know money is important but must they trade our well being for it? Why can’t there be a win-win situation?It’s very disheartening to see all these.

Saya setuju dengan Storm62, sebagai rakyat kita perlu bertenang dan doakan rakan-rakan yang baru di tahan dan yang telah lama di tahan dibebaskan.Ini adalah tindakan pengecut BN yang gunakan undang2 zalim untuk tutup kelemahan dirinya!Saya juga setuju dengan lani tanpa mengira kaum kita adalah rakyat Malaysia yang lahir dan dibesarkan diTanah Air kita Malaysia.Malaysia tidak mungkin merdeka jika tidak ada kejasama kaum CINA, INDIA DAN MELAYU. Sebagai orang Melayu saya sedih masalah perkauman ini muncul semula setelah 51 tahun merdeka oleh orang UMNO!Tapi yang kena tangkap orang lain.Inilah Zalim!

The issue is policy. The issues are freedom and rights. The issues are economic prosperity.
Barisan Nasional has failed at all levels to make an impact on the REAL focus.
Datuk Anwar. Do not lose your focus. Remember, Barisan’s weakness is it short term and reactionary measures… stay firm, focussed, tough, driven and you will win the people over.
If you do not win this Tuesday, people are saying that you would have lost the confidence in the people… its a tough deadline… i seriously hope you make it, but dirty politics is geared towards Barisan nasional manipulating the cross over…I understand it if you dont make it… BUT Do not give up.

Even women are not spared. This reporter is just doing her job as a reporter. Is she responsible for the racial slur uttered by the UMNO member and MP for Bukit Bendera. Looks like se is being punished for bringing to light the atrocities within the ruling party. The real culprit is given the right to proper justice. This is clear cut tyranny of the highest order.

GOD….not again!!! Why are human so difficult to learn from our history mistake and lesson. I am always proud to be a Malaysian where ever I go but with the recent event I am not so sure…. I always think with our different beautiful races and cultures we are indeed “Truly Asia”.
We, citizen of this country wish to have a dedicated and sincere government who is honest and with dignity to serve his countryman.
In recent events it looks like we are having a war with all politician, it this the necessary step for the change of a better government? If for the good of this country we believe it should be done as soon as possible.
We wish that we all Malaysian could adhere to the followings ideas and mottos so that we all could be truly Malaysian:-

THIS GIVES AMMUNITION TO BN TO STRATEGIES THEIR PLAN TO THWART ANY ATTEMPT TO TAKE OVER THE GOVERNMENT. WE ARE GETTING VERY IMPATIENT OVER THE RHETORIC AND DOUBTFUL WHETHER WE CAN ACHIEVE OUR DREAM OF 16 SEPT.2008. Dear DSAI, PK, and my rakyat friends,
My view from the moon says,
A. No worries…PR / DSAI plans are all on track. Majority of the rakyat are with PR / DSAI. Thus, Sept 16 or whatever date, we can wait…we have waited for 10 YEARS already…what is another 2 weeks or 2 months ?? Of course we forgive DSAI if Sept 16 date is not kept. Why ? Because of the following :
i. Sept 16 is a “date” to give BN the jitters, eg. “Aliens, Aliens coming, run run..” BN don’t realize…if date not kept, BN will be having a new date to look forward to…worse for BN. Try to put yourself in Pak Lah or Najib’s shoes…panic or not ? See what i mean ?? ( Ref the errie graveyard picture and the little toyol laughing in one of the previous PKR website !!).
ii. Sept 16 date is a convenient date to give new meaning to our Sabahan and Sarawakian ( S & S ) rakyat that we care for their Merdeka celebrations. If date not kept, S & S still celebrate this date happily like the past 42 times. No difference…its not the end of Malaysia.
iii. Sept 16 is a date chosen by DSAI to hasten the break-up of BN. How ? Ref item i above, use psychology to instill fear into the hearts and minds of the BN members. Expected effects are sleeplessness ( see Pak Lah’s latest photo), selfishness by looking after oneself eg. Gerakan and MCA making separation threats to UMNO, and hastiness (when Muyiddin and Najib hurrying Pak Lah to go). If Sept 16 date is delayed, even better for DSAI..more BN break-up will surface…How ? BN members cannot contain the ANXIETY and “must let go all the steam build up” eg. how long can you hold your breath underwater ?? …Ah-ha, not everyone has oxygen tank like me on the moon..
B. All of us rakyat writing to this blog MUST play our part to help Malaysia …OK ??? Don’t just write “Oh, we hope and pray…” ( sounds like a song ), or “We support you DSAI..go ahead with your plan etc ( say, this reminds me of my alien friend before he pushed me into the cold crater swimming pool”. Why ?? Because of the following :
i. We each have a VOTE or a voice/belief. How do you translate this vote/voice/belief into 100 votes ?? GO OUT AND PERSUADE, brainwash, discuss, family ceramah, and whatever you need to do, to get the other unconverted rakyats to believe in PK / DSAI as much as you do in him. Spread the “fever” or the “momentum” or whatever you call it ( its just a name, doesn’t really matter. Your action and belief / sincerity are more important and effective in persuasion ).
ii. DSAI and the PR Exco members cannot see themselves better than we can see them from the outside. Thus, we must write to DSAI when we have a good idea or strategy or if we see any “moon craters ahead ” to be avoided. This is considered as PARTICIPATING in the process of removing the BN Govt…and instilling the PR Govt that we want. It will be very satisfying in terms of quality of life and meaning of life. 20 years down the road, you can tell your grand kids how you helped put PR to govern Malaysia..isn’t that worth sacrificing your time and effort , instead of going to the movies and leaving all the hard work to DSAI and PR members ???
