Yesterday evening we had dinner with John Esposito and his wife Jean and other friends. John is the Founder and Director of the Center for Muslim Christian Understanding at Georgetown University where I taught courses from 2005-2006. We had planned to meet during his visit but I was worried whether or not I would be able to keep the appointment because of our appearance in court on Thursday.
Alhamdulillah we had a wonderful evening together. John told us about the enormous success of his latest book, Who Speaks for Islam which has just been translated to Bahasa and will be launched in Jakarta on Sunday.
I remembered the time I spent at Georgetown University with great fondness. Away from the hectic schedule that Azizah and I keep in Malaysia, we spent time together as a family. My Georgetown students were exceptionally bright and interested in Southeast Asian politics. I hope they are following the latest developments closely as Malaysia goes through such an important phase in its history.
