The Malaysian Insider JUNE 19 — Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is, among other things, the Energizer Bunny. Like the battery mascot in the television commercial, he keeps going and going and and going…about transforming from prime minister-in-waiting to actually being prime minister.
Arguably and easily Malaysia’s hardest working politician in the past 100 days, Anwar – who holds no political office but is the de facto leader of the federal opposition – has spent time since March 8 criss-crossing the nation and travelling to foreign cities to talk of efforts to helm Malayisa.
With Opposition parties winning 82 parliamentary seats and control of four more states, Anwar has expended time and energy to cobble together state governments and iron out issues within a nascent coalition that co-operates with mutual suspicion.
At the same time, he has been flirting, charming and coaxing lawmakers from the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition to jump ship even as he flaunts his political renaissance and taunts Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s coalition with the threat to topple them.
He has also travelled outside Malaysia to meet with potential investors and friends he made during his time in power to impress upon them his potentially quick return to Putrajaya, while hinting of secretive meetings abroad with power brokers in the Malaysian political scene.
Not a day goes without his www.anwaribrahimblog.com revealing the who, what, when, where, why and how of his political life, from meetings with foreign politicians to tea with the main players in the Philippines and his thoughts on slashing the pump price if Malaysia’s oil money is not used for bailouts and national projects.
“I cannot accept an oil-producing nation like Malaysia increasing petroleum prices by 46 percent in one go,” he said recently in Dubai, promising to cut pump price when he takes power – a populist move to keep the momentum going against an increasingly unpopular Abdullah, who cut fuel subsidies this month to prevent runaway deficits.
This promise to cut petrol prices brings him closer to ending his days as prime minister-in-waiting, a sobriquet that was once before bestowed on him when he was deputy prime minister and Mahathir’s protégé by none other than Opposition veteran Lim Kit Siang. Ironically, Lim is now an ally in the putative Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
Acquitted of sodomy charges exactly seven years to the day of his sacking, a wheelchair-bound Anwar has worked hard to find his legs so he can walk and run metaphorically and literally back to Putrajaya, ignoring potshots from Abdullah, Datuk Seri Najib Razak and especially his one-time-mentor-turned nemesis Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“It is not individual. It is not about Abdullah Badawi or Najib Razak. It is about the system,” Anwar said in Dubai when commenting on a leadership change pact between the Umno top two after Barisan Nasional was mauled in the recent general elections.
Anwar is confident that Pakatan Rakyat can take over by Sept 16 – Malaysia Day – with lawmakers crossing over from Barisan Nasional especially from Sabah and Sarawak despite sweeteners to stay from Abdullah.
“We have adequate numbers to secure a simple majority in the House. What we need, of course, is a comfortable majority… There is a general sentiment among the general population wanting this change,” Anwar added. In recent days, his aides have identified two parties keen to cross over, one of which was said to be the Malaysian Chinese Association (MCA) that formed the original Alliance with Umno in 1955.
Yesterday he congratulated Sabah Progressive Party’s (SAPP) move to initiate or support a no-confidence motion against Abdullah’s leadership when Parliament meets next Monday.
“I am happy with these early actions and call upon other friends to act quickly in order to guarantee stable politics and efficient economic management that will lead to dynamic growth and equitable distribution,” Anwar said, disclosing two previous talks with SAPP president Datuk Yong Teck Lee.
His hard work will continue in the coming days to convince others, especially Umno lawmakers, to take the leap of faith and allay suspicions from all – including coalition members – that he is a political chameleon interested in power for itself.
“Chameleon means you say different things to different people,” he told Bloomberg recently. “My message is consistent; the examples must be different to cater to the audience. I go to the urban area, I quote Shakespeare; I go to the village, I quote the Quran; you quote Confucius to the Chinese; to the Hindus, I quote the Ramayana.”
It will take another 100 days to see what Anwar will reap from what he has sown – a bumper crop or a bitter harvest. But notwithstanding the results, he will continue to work hard. Like the Energizer Bunny.

Folks, I will take my chances with Pakatan Rakyat. What have the present BN led government does for us. Price increase of petrol of 30 cents in year 2006. End result? Price increase of many things that we use daily. Another price increase for petrol and diesel in mid 2008. This time the increase is more drastic than 2006. 78 cents per litre for petrol and RM1 per litre for diesel. You guess right! This time around the price increase for good and service will bw much more than for year 2006. Give me a good reason that I should continue to support the BN led government. NO WAY1 I will take my chance with the opposition

Kerana Mahathir, nampak sangat negara kita semakin hancur. Awalnya mereka balik rumah? Apakah 19 Jun 2008 cuti umum?
Inilah rasanya kesan kenaikan minyak. Ekonomi kita mungkin bakal lumpuh jika tiada satu gelombang Pakatan Rakyat dalam politik Malaysia. Teruskan berjuang Datuk Seri. Jangan lupa rakyat dan agama kita.

Assalamu ‘alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh!
Saudara Anwar,
Kerana anda berani mengambil resiko, maka golongan massa merasa terpanggil mengikut anda.
Saya cukup geli tetapi saya percaya pada kata-kata Ketua Menteri Pulau Pinang Lim Guan Eng where got Dato Seri the money …

As I wrote earlier on a different blog, you are already PM, all but in name. No one can make those BN clowns stand up to attention faster than you can.

Brother Anwar Ibrahim,
If Malaysia is considered a Muslim country [not so much on being Islamic State}, then , there is every chance that Malaysia can bring pump prices down.
How so? Well, as long as there is Saudia and the Rich Gulf Oil States drilling and pumping the oil !
A rich Muslim country is Duty-bound to help other Muslim country to stave off social crisis …and Saudia and the rich Gulf Oil States can help us with supplying directly to Petronas refineries CHEAPER Crude at prices NOT Dictated by the NYMex.
It is a transaction between a Muslim and another Muslim ….use Gold Dinar if we want to …
But I think the Saudis and Gulf Kings prefer to deal with Anwar Ibrahim …..
and there’s where we may hold down the pump prices ….

DSAI, the Rakyat solute SAPP for the bold decision that they have made to table for the “non confidence vote” & pull out from BN. It set a good example for others to follow. BN component parties that continues to ignore the Rakyat’s wishes will ultimately receive total rejection from the Rakyat & ultimately demise to themselves. MCA, Gerakan & other East Malaysia Parties & some UMNO MPs should be bold enough to stand up for the Rights of the Rakyat they represent & fulfill the wishes of the people. These MPs should use their head instead of using their heart to made that bold decision to quit the BN for the sake of the Rakyat & the country.
We talk about Penang is behind Singapore by far & it is undisputably true. If the current situation continues, Malaysia is going to fall behind Vietnam before 2020.
Many Foreign Investors & Foreign customers who have business dealings with Malaysian companies are very concern on the current political instability situation in Malaysia. A CHANGE in Fed Govt Administration is inevitable & is the only solution to bring political stability , confidence to the business community & economic growth to the country.
Therefore, we call upon all MPs who are sincere to serve the Rakyat & truthful in serving the country to make that bold & important decision.

Anwar will be Prime Minister. He is a natural leader, can create confidence for Malaysians to march on to better times and deeds, can provide hope for our children to move forward to the future with excitement and hope, will always hold a light for the destitute, will impress upon Malaysians that corrupt practices will be dealt with severely, and, Anwar will be a leader that the world will be proud of. Pakatan’s Time has come. While endeavouring for the future, my request to Anwar is to ensure that future leaders are groomed, tested and be ready to take over the mantle whenever the situation arises. The comic but tragic scenario in Malaysia with PM Badawi drifting aimlessly must never be allowed to arise in Malaysia again. My sincere wishes to DSAI, may he succeed n leading Malaysia at the soonest.

The much awaited breath of fresh air in enhancing the quality of life among all Malaysians is inevitably within reach. While Malaysians from all walks of life anxiously await and serenade a new dimension and frontier, one can’t help noticing the vacuum so visibly noticeable among shortsighted politicians within PKR in Sabah. With the exception of the equally hardworking Dr.Jeffery Kitingan and perhaps one or two others, the rest seem lost with no vision.
Dato’Seri,as an exceptional leader destine to make reforms for the well being of the country and the people, let us also not loose sight that politicians with quality, competency, innovation and farsightedness are ingredients that will be respected by the people.Corrupted and arrogant politicians are yesterdays news and should ultimately be eradicated completely.
It is therefore our honest opinion, that majority of our leaders in PKR Sabah do not posses the quality they claim to enshrine and unless immediate remedies are forthcoming the end result could be devastating. We have chosen to comment is this article as we have total confidence in your leadership and administration. It is our fervent hope that the leaders in PKR Sabah will commensurate the steadfast direction and hard work as exampled by Dato’Seri.
For Dato’Seri’s kind information,we are a group of businessman steadfast in our direction and strong supporters of PKR.

Salam DSAI,
DSAI cepatlah sikit ambil alih.
