Dear Anwar:

The world has recently learned of the new challenges you are facing in Malaysia. As you continue to struggle to bring about freedom and democratic principles at home, I would like you to know that the international community recognizes fully the enormous contributions you have made to the well being of the Malaysian people, and to the continuing prosperity of your fellow human beings on a global scale. You are indeed a man of principle, and an example of unquestionable honesty and integrity.

I know I speak for all of your colleagues, past and present around the world when I say that you have our enduring confidence, friendship and support.

I wish you strength and continued perseverance in these trying times.
