Isu Mahathir: Penjelasan Sebenar

KENYATAAN MEDIA

Saya ingin menjelaskan laporan media mengenai komen Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim mengenai Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohammad semalam.

    Brother Anwar,
About time you showed us some of that fighting spirit you had demonstrated during the days of reformasi. Call a spade a spade. What’s this crap about him having any rights as a citizen?

Please stop talking like Brutus. I still remember that fiery speech in Kota Baru sept 1998 when you and all of us in the crowd shouted ourselves hoarse condemning that tyrant.

And that was before the black eye. but that black eye was not just an assault on your person - it was a premeditated and state organised attack on freedom and democracy under the command of that dictator. As the land of Sophocles would have it, perpetrators of such injustice and oppression forfeit their rights as citizens for their continued pretension to democracy is an affront to those who truly believe in it.

You should have said: Mahathir has no right to join the opposition - unless and until he has apologised uneqivocally to the people for all the acts of cruelty, oppression and injustice committed during his time. And let the people judge after that whether he has the legitimacy to fight for what the opposition is fighting for.

    Assalamualaikum DSAI,

    Sdr Conradagosy,

Believe me, I know exactly where you’re coming from. Because, I, like columnist Isham Rais, do not even trust the “dot on the letter ‘i’, in the name Mahathir!” No! No! Its not about vengeance. Its about the wisdom that “a Muslim should not be bitten by a same snake, from the same lair, twice!”

So when I read (from Harakah Daily, I think that was) that the PAS Youth support DSAI’s call for this character to lead the opposition, mind you, (also another excerpt from a report from the Star), experience tells me that something was amiss!

That this was all part of BN’s propaganda to discredit PKR in general and DSAI in particular, became evidently clear with the “correction” posted by Sdr Nik Nazmi, and later by the clarification by Sdr Azmin Ali.

Herein lies the daunting task of trying to impart our philosophies, our ideas and our arguments to the masses. If an elite in the mould of Sdr Conradagosy, could easily fall into the trap set by these propaganda machines, I fear for the Pak Ciks and the Mak Ciks in the kampungs and semi-urban areas, who rely on nothing else for news except for these propaganda tools, whether print or electronic!

I am no politician. But one-third of “our” problem is communication. The other third is the SPR. If the leadership in the opposition can effectively overcome these “two-thirds problem”, I see a bright and sunny Malaysia ahead after the twelfth general elections!

    Sdr Addeb,
I agree with everything you’ve said except for that bit about my falling into that trap of these lowly propagandist scumbags. Not for one second did I believe Anwar had invited that dictatator to join the opposition let alone become an advisor. But Anwar did say that he had rights as a citizen to do this, that and the other which to my mind was the Brutus in him surfacing - the same kind of gentleman politics which undid him in 1998 and which gave him that almost childlike innocence in believing that his colleagues in UMNO would also play by the rules of a gentlemen’s club; you know, don’t hit below the belt, we’ve got to be fair, let’s give him the benefit of the doubt etc.

I think Anwar knows what I am saying here. These are butchers, so what’s with the kid gloves?

As for PAS, as a political party they have their own agenda not that there’s anything wrong with it but as far as this episode is concerned their continued endorsement of this tyrant totally robs them of their moral highground. The same goes for Raja Petra and the other half a dozen bloggers who are now head over heels enamoured with the so-called new song that this despot is singing.

    Sdr Mukhsen,
Ini bukan soal dendam atau marah. Ini soal akhlak dan prinsip moral. Apakah saudara menganggap perjuangan rakyat cuma satu permainan politik?

I am no poet, so allow me to take a few lines from Chairil Anwar as my parting shot:

    Darah kami panas selama,
    Badan kami tertempa baja,
    Jiwa kami gagah perkasa,
    Kami akan berwarna diangkasa,
    Kami pembawa ke Bahgia nyata.

    Brother Conradagosy,

Question. How do we communicate effectively with the masses?
